There’s something extra special about photographing families on Thanksgiving weekend.

Being thankful for family takes on an even deeper meaning when you take the first steps of grad celebrations of your last baby, with grad/senior photos.

On Sunday evening, I had the privilege of spending time with this absolutely beautiful family. Between cozy jackets, plenty of laughs, and the very crisp autumn air, we wandered their private property before making our way down to the lake as the sun dipped lower.

These are the moments that matter most. The ones where you're celebrating not just a milestone, but everything it took to get there.

Home.

Such a simple word, but for some families, it means everything.

When we photographed their maternity session in the mountain meadows, they already knew their little boy’s first chapter would look a little different. They knew there would be time spent in the NICU, but they also knew he was already so deeply loved.

Four weeks of waiting.
Four weeks of hoping.
Four weeks of celebrating every little milestone.

And now… he’s home.

Healthy. Loved beyond measure. Finally surrounded by the people (and pups!) who have been waiting so patiently to meet him.

Home looks like sleepy cuddles in the nursery instead of hospital monitors. It looks like a proud big brother stepping into his new role, two dogs who were determined to be part of every photo, and grandparents soaking in every moment after walking alongside this family through the unknown.

There was no rush. No countdown. Just the quiet joy of finally being together.

This session was so much more than newborn photos. It was a celebration of everything it took to get here—the strength, the hope, the tiny victories, and the moment this family finally got to bring their baby home.

Welcome home, sweet boy. Your story has only just begun. 💛

Meeting Baby T yesterday felt like stepping into a home already overflowing with love.

Just a little while ago, we documented the anticipation during his bump session. Now he's here, safely in his parents' arms, and I had the privilege of documenting these first quiet days at home.

One of my favourite parts of this session was knowing that his grandma and great-auntie were still here from *Colombia*. They travelled all the way to Canada before he was born and stayed so they could be here to welcome him into the world. What an incredible gift—to be held by generations of family from the very beginning.

These are the moments I love most about in-home lifestyle newborn sessions. No posing. No rushing. Just the little stretches, sleepy snuggles, tiny fingers, and the people who already love them more than words can say.

The only sneak peek from yesterday!! Last night’s young family chose not to have their photos shared on social media, and honestly? I’m completely okay with that. 💛

Dad actually started apologizing for it, but I stopped him and reminded him that their family’s privacy and comfort will always come first.

Years ago, I read a post from a photographer asking how they could add an extra fee to a client’s invoice if they chose not to allow their photos to be shared publicly.🙄 It sat wrong with me then, and it still doesn’t sit right with me today.

We live in a world where almost everything is shared online. I don't blame anyone for wanting to keep a little more of their life private, especially when it comes to their children.

As photographers, we’re invited into some of the most meaningful seasons of people’s lives. That’s a privilege, and one I don’t take lightly. But just because I photograph your memories doesn't mean I'm entitled to share them.

Am I grateful when families give me permission to share their photos? Absolutely! It helps people discover my work and supports my small business more than you know.

But permission should always be a choice, not an expectation. And it certainly shouldn't come with a penalty if you say no.

So, if your photographer makes you feel guilty for keeping your family’s photos private, or charges you extra for it? Find a new one. 💛

Your family. Your memories. Your choice. Always.

This family... they packed more laughter into a 30-minute session than most families do in a full hour.

There were no worries about looking perfect, no holding back, and no fear of being completely themselves. Just genuine connection, endless laughter, and the kind of joy that reminds you what family photos are really about.

These are the sessions that leave my cheeks sore from smiling behind the camera. What a truly one-of-a-kind family.

Last night's sneak peeks for this beautiful family. 🤍

It's pretty incredible to think that I've photographed this sweet little girl three times in less than a year—first as a baby bump, then in her newborn session, and now as the happiest, fun-loving little baby.

Watching families grow and being invited back to document each new chapter is something I'll never take for granted. These moments remind me just how quickly life changes and how precious it is to preserve it along the way.

I'm so grateful for every family who trusts me with their memories, year after year. It truly is the greatest privilege, and I honestly have the best job in the world.

💛Pause here for a second💛

Because in just a few short weeks, this family won't look like this anymore.

There will be another tiny hand to hold, another laugh around the dinner table, another little personality to love.

Until then, there was one perfect September evening in Elkford, surrounded by mountains, golden light, two wonderful big brothers, one very loved pup, and a family soaking in every last moment before everything changes—in the very best way.💛

Watching these boys love on their mama and eagerly wait for their next baby sibling was one of those reminders that the simplest moments often become the ones we treasure most.

Years from now, these photos won't just remind them what they looked like. They'll remind them how this season felt.

Sometimes the best wedding venues aren't venues at all.

This unconventional backyard wedding had everything that actually mattered—endless laughter, happy tears, mountain views, warm sunshine, family gathered close... and of course, the dogs stealing the show whenever they got the chance.

No ballroom. No grand production. Just a couple who chose a day that felt completely like them. The kind of wedding where muddy paws are welcome, hugs last a little longer, and every moment feels genuine.

Unpopular opinion: You don’t need an engagement or proposal to book a couples session.

The best photos often come from the chapters in between.

Not every season that is celebrated has to be because something big happened. Sometimes it’s enough that you’re here, together, in a place you love.

This evening took us through downtown Fernie and Maiden Lake with no timeline to follow and no pressure to perform—just two people soaking up a mountain evening.
