Sumbul & Brian’s engagement session at Dundurn Castle in Hamilton was such a beautiful evening to photograph.

When we first started planning the shoot, they were still deciding on the location. After talking about the style they wanted — elegant, romantic, timeless, but still natural and relaxed — I suggested Dundurn Castle. It ended up being a perfect match.

One of the biggest advantages of this location is the variety. Within one property, we were able to photograph against the historic architecture, across the open lawns, beneath mature trees, around smaller buildings, on the steps and along the pathways. The gallery feels very diverse without ever needing to leave the grounds.

We planned the session for the hours before sunset, and the light was beautiful. As the sun moved lower, it came through the trees and gave us softer, warmer backlight. We simply kept exploring the property and followed the best light as it changed.

Dundurn Castle can be busy on summer weekends, but from a photographer’s perspective it is very manageable. There are plenty of different angles and quieter areas, and careful framing usually makes it easy to keep the focus completely on the couple.

Most importantly, Sumbul and Brian were wonderful to photograph. We walked, talked, laughed, created a few classic portraits and left plenty of room for natural moments to happen in between.

My advice for couples planning an engagement session is always the same: treat it like another date. Don’t worry about posing or what to do with your hands. Walk, talk, laugh, hold each other and enjoy the time together — I’ll take care of the photography.

Some engagement sessions are planned around a location. This one became an adventure.

Amber and Devin wanted their engagement photos on the water, so we met at Royal Hamilton Yacht Club on a warm July evening and started slowly around the marina. The light was already beautiful — long shadows across the docks, reflections between the sailboats, and that soft summer glow that makes everything feel a little quieter.

Before we even stepped onto the boat, Amber and Devin made the session feel easy. They walked, laughed, danced, held hands, and quickly forgot about the camera. That is always the point where we know the photographs are going to feel like the couple rather than simply look like a photoshoot.

Then we sailed out onto Lake Ontario.

From that moment, we stopped trying to control the evening. The boat changed direction, the wind picked up, the light moved across the water, and we simply followed it. Shoes came off. Amber’s dress started moving in the breeze. The sail went up, the marina disappeared behind us, and suddenly the entire session became much more spontaneous.

Photographing on a sailboat is not easy. There is very little space, ropes and railings everywhere, a constantly moving deck, and only a few places where everyone can safely stand. But those limitations are also what make it so interesting. Amber and Devin naturally held onto each other, moved together with the boat, sat on the bow, stood beneath the sail, laughed through the wind and completely embraced the experience.

As the sun dropped lower, the photographs changed with it. Bright summer portraits became warm golden-hour images, then softer frames against the water, and finally silhouettes as the last light disappeared toward the horizon.

Something about this evening reminded us of the years we spent photographing couples and weddings near the Adriatic and Mediterranean — white sails, bare feet, warm air and sunlight reflecting across the water. For a few hours, Lake Ontario felt almost European.

Amber and Devin, thank you for trusting us and for turning this engagement session into such a beautiful summer memory. We hope these photographs always bring you back to the wind, the warmth, the laughter and the feeling of sailing toward the last light together.

Elanya & Matthew’s engagement session at R.C. Harris was such a beautiful summer evening — warm light, monumental architecture, green hills and Lake Ontario all in one location.

They were incredibly easygoing together, so the session felt natural from the very beginning. We walked, talked, laughed and explored different parts of R.C. Harris before finishing by the water, where the softer evening light gave us some of our favourite photographs.

As a Toronto Photographer, I love creating engagement sessions that feel relaxed and personal while still giving couples a beautiful variety of images.

Celine & Albert’s engagement session at Parkwood Estate was such a beautiful summer afternoon.

We explored the gardens, fountains, terraces and elegant architecture, keeping the session relaxed and natural with plenty of movement, laughter and genuine moments between them.

They’ll be getting married later this year at Stone Eagle Winery, and we can’t wait to photograph the next chapter of their story.

There’s something special about photographing a maternity session at Scarborough Bluffs in the evening. The soft light, Lake Ontario, the cliffs and the quiet pockets of greenery give so much variety without needing to travel between locations.

Slav and Yana spent the evening walking, laughing and simply enjoying this time together before welcoming their first baby. We kept the session relaxed and natural, moving from the park down toward the shoreline as the sun got lower.

Natalie and Bogdan’s in-home maternity session is now on the blog.

We photographed this beautiful chapter at their home in Toronto, together with their two dogs and parrot. The most special moment came at the end of the session, when they opened their gender reveal and discovered they’re expecting a baby girl.

Such a sweet afternoon to document.
