A night in DUMBO (Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass) with Vivian Ryan, taking in the best views that Brooklyn has to offer.

Jane’s Carousel is an ornate antique carousel that is spectacular after dark, its vintage carved horses and ornate details glowing beneath the lights of its glass pavilion. Just a short walk away, the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline light up the night sky. There’s something pretty special about seeing these iconic New York landmarks after dark — and even better experiencing it together on our anniversary trip.

A sunset over New York City that was definitely worth the subway ride from our Midtown hotel to Brooklyn Bridge Park. The light did not disappoint, with the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skyline glowing in the evening sun as the city lights came on.

Afterwards, we headed to Cecconi’s, where we enjoyed fresh pasta and an excellent Chianti while watching the last light fade over this beautiful scene. Not a bad way to spend our first evening in New York! 🗽

One World Trade Center is one of those places that’s impossible to fully appreciate until you’re standing there. The soaring tower, the intricate architecture of the new plaza, and the quiet dignity of the 9/11 Memorial combine to tell the story of that terrible day and of a city that never gave up.

I tried to capture the story of that recovery —from the skyline glowing at sunset across the East River, to the sweeping lines and symmetry of the Oculus, and the peaceful reflection pools that allow you to pause and remember.

My take on the iconic Manhattan Bridge at night, looking from Brooklyn toward the glittering lights of New York City.

It’s difficult to create something truly original at such a well-photographed location. Add dark city streets, traffic bearing down on me, and the extreme dynamic range between deep shadows and brilliant city lights, and it becomes even more challenging.

I decided to include my lovely wife, Vivian, in the foreground, backlit by the oncoming headlights. Fortunately, my OM-1 was up to the task, with a little help from Lightroom and Photoshop to bring everything together.

A few final images from our time in and around St. John's, Newfoundland—a place where history, rugged coastlines, and incredible wildlife come together.

5 – The dramatic sea cliffs near Signal Hill, with a Bald Eagle keeping a watchful eye over the Atlantic.

7 – A minke whale surfacing to swallow a meal in the waters off Holyrood—a fleeting but unforgettable encounter.

Newfoundland never stopped astonishing us. Around every bend is another spectacular landscape, another story, or another wildlife encounter waiting to be discovered. I look forward to returning soon!

Twillingate is famous for its icebergs and whales, but its rugged coastline is every bit as unforgettable.

These images capture the quiet beauty of Herring Neck, the welcoming coastal community we called home for a few days, the iconic Long Point Lighthouse standing watch over the Atlantic, and the raw power of the ocean as waves crash against the rocky cliffs. Every turn told a different story, from peaceful fishing harbours to towering sea cliffs shaped by centuries of wind and waves.

Another day, another iceberg chase... and this one was worth the effort.

We first spotted this magnificent berg from a few different angles off the quaint town of Cupids, near St John's, Newfoundland. We caught up with it again days later near Harbour Grace, where it appeared to have grounded itself just offshore.

These frozen giants are always changing with the wind, tides, and currents. What fascinated us most was how different it looked from every angle. One side revealed smooth, sculpted curves, while another showed deep blue crevasses and rugged textures carved by centuries and the relentless Atlantic. From another viewpoint, the 'berg resembled a lion's head as it drifted past the homes lining the shore. It was almost like photographing a completely different iceberg each time we moved.

Moments like these are what make iceberg season in Newfoundland unforgettable.

PS - Don't get too close to an iceberg in a boat, as shown here. They can be unpredictable and dangerous!

Perched high above the rugged coastline near Signal Hill, this mated pair of Bald Eagles keep watch over their nest, a place they’ve faithfully returned to year after year.

Sadly, we later learned that the eggs did not hatch and the nest was eventually abandoned this season. Here’s hoping this pair returns again next year to continue their story!
