“What do I do with my hands?” A perfectly reasonable question that somehow only becomes urgent when someone points a camera at you. :))
If updating your headshot keeps slipping down your to-do list because you go, "I am not photogenic," here are a few things I want you to know:
📸 You do not need to arrive knowing how to pose. That's my job. I'll guide your posture, expression, and, yes, those suddenly very confusing hands. :)
👚 Wear something that fits well and feels like you. If you spend the whole session adjusting your collar or pulling at your jacket, it's harder to relax. Try your outfit on beforehand, including sitting down in it.
😁 Skip the 10-minute mirror rehearsal. Holding a "perfect" smile usually makes it feel less natural. Between photos breathe out, relax your jaw, and let your face reset. We'll find the expression that feels like you.
🤝 Think about who you want to connect with. Is it a potential client, a new employer, or your future team? "I am meeting someone I'd enjoy working with" is a much more useful thought than "I must look professional immediately."
After 18 years of photographing people, I've heard "I hate having my photo taken" more times than I can count. You're in very familiar territory here.
My headshot days in Calgary on November 10 and November 24 are a chance to get an updated photo with guidance throughout and no expectation that you've secretly been modeling on weekends. Message me for the available times on those dates and booking details. Bring yourself and an outfit you love. I'll handle the "what do I do now" part.
