This was the second grizzly bear I ever photographed. The first one wasn’t a very special encounter. This one was. It was also one of five grizzlies I photographed in a span of four days in Southern Alberta. Have a great day!

Mountain goats and dall rams are a couple of my favourite animals; I wish they were easier to find and get close to though. With their pristine white coats, they pop out from any background and they live in such stunning places; they’re like a dream to photograph, when you can get to them that is. While both are equally stunning which would you like most to see or photograph if given the opportunity?

Thanks and welcome to all the new members who have joined in the last few days. I just want to let you know in two months I embark on my second trip to Alaska. I’ll be there for seventeen days, including six at Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park where in September I will be photographing what will literally be some of the largest brown bears/ grizzlies in the world. I will spend ten days in Denali National Park too but seeing the bears of Fat Bear Week if you know what that is all about is going to be the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Upon returning from Alaska I will head to Jasper National Park for a week of photography and after I come home from there I’m taking my Dad later in October for a week long tour through the Alberta Rockies. Thanks for joining and I hope to bring you many awesome images in the weeks to come!

The road from Pincher Creek Alberta to Waterton Lakes National Park travels through the picturesque ranching community of Twin Butte; this is a stunningly beautiful drive and you will see plenty of wildlife at dawn and dusk; in fact, a couple of years ago I was driving in the dark from Pincher and two young bull moose were standing together right in the middle of the road.

Some images are so special to me that while not perfect in ex*****on they will always hold a place in my heart. This part of southern Alberta was covered in thick smoke from forest fires on this evening and I had just come down from summiting Table Mountain in the Pincher Creek area. I had only been doing photography for a couple years and was still switching between landscape settings and lenses to wildlife and telephoto ones and I was still in landscape mode when this grizzly crossed a meadow, stopping briefly to leave its claw marks on this tree. It all happened so fast at sunset and while it’s not perfect I consider myself fortunate to have captured it.
