Yesterday was a great day. I can hardly move this morning, but it’s all worth it in the end. I’m exhausted and have two days left which will be spent entirely looking for moose. It can be downright dangerous here going for the rams, so I was appreciative to join my friend Joey and his friend Victor. Last year I got all sorts of large moose and didn’t find the the rams until there was only two days left in the trip. Now it’s the moose I’m looking for with two days left. There’s a lot of moose here but compared to the bulls I got last year they’re smaller, with the exception of that big one I shared back in the trees. I have to get out there and get looking. Thanks everyone!

I was watching a medium size bull moose when this guy came out; he was bigger but for Denali he isn’t that big at all, still it’s nice to see. By August 30 last year I had seen half a dozen bulls much larger than this. The rut is a little late this year due to warm weather in August.

Good morning everyone from Denali National Park in Alaska! I did caribou photography yesterday with Joey Olivieri. Joey is one of North America’s greatest photographers of wild sheep. I never would’ve captured these images if he didn’t spot these caribou at least a mile away. He kept pushing to go further to the next ridge and the one after that too. Hiking across the tundra is tough; it’s spongy and mucky with lots of water. We put in 8-10 km out there. I can hardly move this morning. It’s great to learn from a guy like Joey who has been doing photography for forty years and even though we have met and talked before, it’s nice to have a friend to do photography with for a change. So the whole key here is to not approach too fast and the caribou will become comfortable with your presence and we had a lot of time with them. There’s a surprise for you all at the end. Thanks

Good morning everyone!!! Have a great day. I have to get ready for the bus that takes you deeper into the park. It’s not like Banff and Jasper here. They want to keep this a wild place. It’s not meant to accommodate large volumes of traffic; the park road is this winding dirt road that takes through the canyons and mountains of Denali. Here’s some images I’ve captured so far.
