Silent Current — Lofoten Islands, Norway

Aurora bands rise and stretch across a star-filled Arctic sky, set against a grounded landscape of trees and snow-covered peaks. A study in contrast—motion above, stillness below.

The red boat.

Sildpollen sits quietly in the inner fjords of Lofoten, but there’s nothing staged about this scene. That rorbu carries the traditional Norwegian red. The boat earns its keep. Everything here works for a living.

For two days, the mountains kept throwing snow. Then this morning, they let go.

I walked to the edge of the fjord and waited. No rush.

Just watching the surface settle. And then it happened.

The water went still enough to hold everything — boat, cabin, peaks — like glass.

I had about 12 minutes before the wind came back.

Forty frames. Then it was gone.

That’s how it goes out here.

Just returned from one of the most stunning places I've ever put a camera — the Lofoten Islands, Norway.

This is Reine. Drone shot, day two of the trip, during a 20-minute weather window before the next storm rolled in. The yellow rorbu fishing cabins on stilts, the unbelievably clear water, and those mountains swallowed by clouds.

I'll be sharing nine images from the trip over the coming weeks. Each one is a completely different side of Lofoten — fjords, aurora, coastlines, fishing villages, and the kind of light that only exists up there.

All images available as fine art prints at artbythelens.com — aluminum, acrylic, and canvas, up to 40×60".

Which of these images would you hang in your home? I'd love to know — it helps me prioritize what to print next.

Klepstad Stillwater

A quiet winter evening near Klepstad in the Lofoten Islands, where the last light moved across the water and the mountains settled into shadow. In the foreground, Uten Tittel adds an unexpected layer to the frame, a mirrored installation that bends the landscape back onto itself and gives the whole scene a different kind of tension.

Rigid Waves of Light — photographed at Barrier Lake in the Canadian Rockies.

As Winter Storm Fern underscores winter’s intensity across the country, this image reflects the stillness and structure cold can create. Fractured ice stretches toward distant peaks, capturing the final light of day across a frozen landscape.

Living Calligraphy — captured in the Portland Japanese Garden.
A moss-covered maple stretches across the frame like a brushstroke, shaped by years of careful cultivation and natural rhythm. A study in balance, form, and quiet movement.

Autumn Rush — captured at Starvation Creek in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge.
A tight cascade of basalt, moss, and fallen leaves reveals the raw energy of the Gorge in late fall.

There’s a spot behind Ponytail Falls where you can walk behind the waterfall and look straight out into the Columbia River Gorge. It feels like a doorway between two worlds — mist and light, sound and silence. Easily one of my favorite locations in Oregon. 💦🍂

Near Gorton Creek, the forest feels alive in layers—moss glowing with deep green, branches draped like old stories, and autumn leaves catching the current as it rushes over dark basalt. This little cascade felt like the whole Columbia River Gorge distilled into one frame. 🍂💦🌿

Fire and Renewal — captured near Elowah Falls in Oregon’s Columbia River Gorge.
Amid the forest’s dark vertical lines, new growth emerges in brilliant gold and green. A visual echo of nature’s resilience and rebirth.
