‘The Art of Fishing’

The final photo from my morning spent with this local Balinese fisherman.

After watching him prepare his net and capturing a few portraits, I got to photograph him in action as he cast his net into the water, hoping for a catch.

He was using a traditional fishing net weighted around the edges, allowing it to spread out as it hit the water.

Watching the whole process unfold as the sun rose was such a privilege. It’s easy to visit a place and focus on the scenery, but getting a glimpse into the everyday lives of the people who call it home is just as special.

Three photos from one morning, and an experience I’m so glad I got to capture. Bali, you’ve given me some pretty incredible memories.

‘A Life by the Sea’

Another moment from that incredible morning down by the beach in Bali.

After watching this fisherman prepare for his day, I couldn’t resist getting a closer look and capturing a portrait.

His traditional straw hat, the fishing net resting over his shoulder, and the details in his face made for a photograph I knew I wanted to take.

There’s something about getting up close and capturing someone in their own environment that makes you wonder about the stories behind their face and the life they’ve lived.

A pretty special portrait from a morning I’ll remember for a long time.

‘A Fisherman’s Morning’

One of those mornings I’ll remember for a long time.

I spent an incredible morning down by the beach in Bali, watching a local fisherman prepare his net as the sun slowly rose over the ocean.

I absolutely loved this silhouette, with the first light of the day appearing behind him as he got ready for a morning of fishing.

No rush, no crowds, just the sound of the waves, the changing colours of the sky and a glimpse into someone’s everyday life.

It’s moments like these that make getting up early with a camera so worth it. Definitely one of my favourite mornings in Bali.

‘Life in the Rice Fields’

Hello from Bali!

What an incredibly beautiful country, with amazing people and so many incredible places to explore.

I loved coming across scenes like this while exploring Bali. A local man taking a break while working in the rice fields, surrounded by those incredible shades of green and the landscape that makes this island so special.

It’s so easy to spend your time chasing the famous sights, but some of my favourite travel moments are the little things you stumble across along the way. The everyday scenes, the people and the little glimpses into life in another part of the world.

‘A Little Monkey Magic’

One last snow monkey shot from Japan...

I loved getting the chance to see these little characters in person. Between the wildlife, incredible scenery, amazing food, the skiing and, of course, spending some precious time with my family, Japan has well and truly made its way onto my list of places I need to return to.

Already dreaming about the next adventure. Until next time, Japan!

‘Lost in the Trees’

As incredible as the temples, culture and food are, let’s be honest... the real reason to visit Japan is the skiing and snowboarding.

The powder, the tree runs and that feeling of weaving between the trees with snow flying everywhere. Japan really does deliver when it comes to winter adventures.

There’s a reason Japow has such a reputation. And days spent exploring the trees at Nozawa Onsen are a pretty good example of why it’s worth the trip.

Already dreaming of the next powder day!

‘The Winter Lantern Festival’

One of the highlights of our time in Nozawa Onsen was experiencing the Winter Lantern Festival.

With lantern displays lighting up the snow, fireworks filling the night sky and torchlight skiers making their way down the slopes, it was such a cool way to experience the Japanese winter.

There’s something pretty special about watching fireworks surrounded by snow-covered mountains, especially after spending the day skiing.

A night full of culture, atmosphere, a little bit of winter magic, and another reason to love Japan.

‘The Spirit of Nozawa’

While exploring Nozawa Onsen, we came across Yuzawa Shrine — a lovely little glimpse of traditional Japan tucked away in this mountain village.

Nozawa Onsen is best known for its hot springs and ski slopes, but it’s places like this that make wandering around the village so enjoyable. Between the narrow streets, traditional buildings and little pockets of history, there’s always something interesting to discover.

It’s nice to slow down for a moment and take in a different side of Japan, away from the busy streets of Tokyo.

‘The Road to Senso-ji’

A view of Nakamise-dori from above, looking down the busy shopping street towards the beautiful Senso-ji Temple.

I love seeing places like this from a different perspective. From above, you can really appreciate the rows of shops, the crowds of people making their way towards the temple and the traditional architecture all coming together.

Senso-ji is Tokyo’s oldest Buddhist temple, dating back to 628, and Nakamise-dori has been welcoming visitors with shops and stalls for centuries. It’s pretty amazing to think about how many people have walked this same route over the years.

Such a cool mix of old and new Tokyo.

‘Keeping Warm’

Sometimes, all you need is a cuddle to get through a cold winter’s day.

These two Snow Monkeys, were snuggled up together trying to keep warm in the chilly mountain air.

Snow monkeys are the world’s northernmost-living non-human primates, and their thick coats help them cope with Japan’s cold winters. You’ll often see them huddling together for warmth, and honestly, it doesn’t get much cuter than this.
