It’s hard to not be moved by such moments, when what was made finally meets the world.
I get the privilege of working alongside exhibitors and curators who thoughtfully make these encounters possible, making them as engaging as possible.
I get to witness those fleeting moments of connection and capture them.

I wonder what these moments mean.
Why do we find ourselves wanting to meet what was made, learn its lore, meet its maker, feel a closeness to it all?
Are we looking for mirrors or mates?
To see or to feel seen?

I haven’t yet found an answer, but I do love the journey ✌️🤓 📷

When we listen and learn in the dark

The departure of Us By night from Antwerp, feels like a friend I grew to like so dearly, has chosen to move to another country.
On one hand I feel so happy for their future and the opportunities that this decision could open up for them. On the other, it feels sad that it must be this way.

I know what it’s like to be on both sides of this feeling.

So. I’m going to wish this friend (and all the incredible humans on the front lines, and behind the scenes, that helped this friend shine as bright as they could) ALL THE LUCK and success on their new adventure.

Pockets of sunshine and night lights, captured on film this past spring and summer.

Lately, I’ve been feeling frustrated with these little squares we use as digital photo frames. They do little justice to the quiet beauty of photographs made on less momentous days.

Some photographs ask a little more of us.
A little more time.
A little more imagination.
They aren’t always the kind you absorb in a passing scroll.

So, I’ve started printing my favourite memories - in landscape or portrait, colour or B&W, perfectly exposed or supposedly ‘ruined’ by a light leak or underexposure, and placing them into photo albums.

Call it cliché if you will, this return to an older way of preserving memories. For me, it offers something a screen never quite can. It gives me the chance to revisit those moments, to notice details I’d forgotten, and to hold them in my hands for a while before putting them back on the shelf.

I hope I keep making these little albums long after this warm summer has passed.

There’s the joy of learning a new physical skill. And then there’s the joy of the people who dance Lindy Hop.

My life has become richer since I began dancing this partner dance. Not only because of the movement itself, but because of the warmth, playfulness, and generosity that seem to follow this dance everywhere.

Yesterday was World Lindy Hop Day.
Also, the birthday of Frankie Manning, one of the most influential figures in Lindy Hop, and a teacher to our teacher, .be 🧡

I’m grateful for this legacy that it somehow touched my life too, and brought me into an ever-growing community across the world.

I feel so small, and yet so connected to it all.
