Completing the hike to Sørvágsvatn, the lake above the ocean, instantly earned a place in our travel highlight reel. From the cliffs of Trælanípa, the sloping landscape creates an incredible optical illusion, making the vast lake appear to hover high above the crashing Atlantic Ocean below. We spent ages lingering at the edge, watching fulmars glide effortlessly in and out of the sea caves below. With clear skies, perfect visibility, and views stretching up the coast, it felt impossible to tear ourselves away. We couldn’t have imagined a better day to experience one of the Faroe Islands’ most spectacular landscapes.

Our plan for the day was originally to head to Mykines, but the wild seas had other ideas! We detoured to Tindhólmur instead, and honestly, we think it was meant to be. Up close, those sheer, jagged cliffs we’d admired from afar the day before were even more impressive. We learned the island is privately owned and shared by a small group of local families, but when they aren’t around, it’s completely ruled by sheep, puffins, and nesting seabirds. Scrambling across the island and looking back at the surrounding peaks as the heavy clouds started rolling in was really special. It was one of those classic moments that reminds you to just go with the flow and embrace whatever these rugged parts of the world throw at you.

Touching down in the Faroe Islands was the start of a completely different kind of adventure. We landed on Vágar and made our way to Tórshavn, passing through the remarkable undersea tunnels while the towns and villages prepared for the upcoming national day celebrations. Along the way, we fell in love with the traditional timber buildings topped with turf roofs, designed to help withstand the wild weather that shapes life here.
That evening, the sun bathed Vágar in the most beautiful golden light, so we made a beeline for Múlafossur. Watching the waterfall plunge directly into the Atlantic Ocean, with the dramatic outline of Tindhólmur rising in the distance, was the perfect introduction to a place that already felt wildly different from anywhere we’d been before.

Completing the Ring Road brought our full-circle journey to an end, with our final days spent unwinding and exploring around Reykjavík.
Between catching up with beautiful friends and doing plenty of window shopping along the colorful city streets, we made sure to indulge in a few last Icelandic traditions - devouring delicious local pastries and stopping by Bónus for our trusty road-trip staples of sandwiches and Kefir. Iceland gave us glaciers, waterfalls, puffins, volcanoes, endless daylight, and more unforgettable experiences than we could have imagined.

Visiting Hvammsvík on a misty day felt like the perfect excuse to slow down. The hot springs sat right on the edge of Hvalfjörður, with dramatic mountains rising all around. We spent hours moving between the warm pools as light rain drifted through the air. There was even an ocean pool right out in the fjord that filled up with icy seawater as the tide rolled in, perfect for a cold plunge. The sauna had the best view in the house, looking straight across the water. By the end, we were utterly relaxed, sitting with a generous slice of carrot cake and taking in the stunning surroundings as the mist rolled across the bay.

Hopping into a massive super truck with tires that were almost as tall as we were, we set off into the icy wilderness for the Into the Glacier tour. Climbing onto Langjökull glacier was an adventure in itself, but the real magic happened once we stepped out of the truck and ventured deep inside the world’s largest man-made ice tunnel. Exploring the blue-lit ice corridors was completely surreal. There was even a chapel inside, carved directly out of the ice! Walking beneath tonnes of ancient ice and realising we were standing right inside an ever-changing glacier felt totally wild.
