Oliver Minnett’s photography is a mix of spontaneous timelessness with a focus on physical form and beauty. He spends most of his time shooting film on beaches.

His bright use of colours and strong focus on lighting create a broad body of work. Oliver is a third generation photographer with a background in digital and content production, former creative director for visual collective Voena.

After shooting a beautiful issue of online with Ava Katterns we went for a swim the following day. I had hoped this package from Thorny Devil Australia would have arrived earlier but the post had other plans. I am excited to see what happens next for Ava, as well as to release her issue of ONLINE hopefully next month. In the meantime, please enjoy these and Ava, don’t enjoy Canada too much!!

SUNDAY with Bandsome as we kicked off day 2 of my workshop with Profoto and Sony | Alpha AU & NZ for Georges Cameras.

This brief was a lot broader with a focus on creating some nice art directed images for Bandsome.

Location shoots are very very different from studio especially when the sun comes out to play. You’ve got to do more to work with the environment and give the work a consistent feeling all while the sun throws light into every corner of your frame. I love a 4am start for these things but it’s impractical with a full crew, so we kicked it off at 10 using the locations easterly aspect to cut the light behind us and control the environment. Knowing what the sun will do and studying that is critical for shots like these.

We kept things as light as possible. I wanted to treat it like a two man shoot, focusing on using just the Profoto Pro-B3 and the large SunSilver/White reflector.

Keeping things dynamic while adding little bits of colour with these two tools.

Shot on the Sony A1 II and a lens that I ended up loving a lot the 70-200mm Macro was a great choice for keeping the kit super light and being able to dive close for detail at a moments notice.

I’ve nearly got the notes ready for the weekend. Huge thanks to everyone who came and especially for Nick Fraser for his incredible assistance and to the whole team Ruben and Josh really appreciate the trust!! And our talent whose name also happened to be Josh 👊

I’m sitting on some of the best work I’ve ever done, and it’s been incredibly difficult to get on top of.

But as I take a breath I have to remember that there are so many incredible models who I’ve had the privilege of watching come into there own like georgia

Last year we went to the Whitsundays thanks to lani brown to shoot a campaign for Rusty and shoot a few issues of my mag ONLINE.

This year in September four models I had scouted and developed were offered contracts with agencies. And with my most recent trip to Queensland I realised it wasn’t enough to just continue what I’ve been doing.

… I am setting up a mother agency Minnett Agency and I am so excited to see where things go. But if it wasn’t for this trip…. I wouldn’t be in this position so for the moment here are a few moments from a beautiful week in tropical North Queensland. I owe so much thanks to everyone whose been a part of this.

And for anyone whose following along. What I’ve learnt and why I am doing this:

Modelling is a job where people think they will go and be made to feel beautiful, but that is far from the truth, it’s a job where you have to go to embody beauty. Without a spark, without your own light, your own confidence, the work will feel flat.

So here’s to all the moments that embolden us to feel free and heavenly, that graceful elegant feeling that lives between frames.
