Abandoned diamond mining town Kolmanskop. Playing around with Black and White tonight I thought I’d edit a few of my ghost town Kolmanskop images.

I think it adds an extra layer of eeriness to the town.

Caught this little one having the absolute best time swinging through the trees in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Uganda. 🦍🌿

While everyone dreams of photographing gorillas, one thing that often catches photographers by surprise is just how dark the forest can be. Even in the middle of the day, the thick canopy overhead blocks a lot of the light.

If you're planning a trip to photograph gorillas or other rainforest wildlife, it's worth making sure you're prepared for low-light conditions. I was shooting with a higher ISO and a wide aperture to keep my shutter speed fast enough to capture moments like this without blur. When you've got an energetic gorilla baby launching itself through the trees, you don't get much time to react!

For me, the challenge is part of the fun. The light might be tricky, but the reward is getting to spend time with incredible animals like this in one of the most beautiful forests on Earth.

To all the mothers out there — Happy Mother’s Day.

In the wild, motherhood is fierce, patient, exhausting and extraordinary. Across the plains, forests and rivers of Africa, I was lucky enough to witness quiet moments between mothers and their young — a protective glance, a gentle nudge, a lesson in survival, a moment of play.

No matter the species, there’s something universal about a mother’s care. The strength it takes to protect, nurture and guide another life through an unpredictable world is something truly remarkable.

These photos are a small celebration of that bond — one that exists far beyond our own species.

I also know today can feel different for many people. For those missing their mums, grieving complicated relationships, or those who found love and guidance through grandmothers, aunties, siblings, friends or other maternal figures — thinking of you today too. Family and care can take many forms, and the people who step into those roles leave lasting marks on our lives.

To every mum, stepmum, grandmother, carer and maternal figure: thank you for the love, resilience and sacrifices that so often go unseen.

And a special note to my mother. For being the best mother a girl could wish for. Loving, caring, kind, generous, forgiving, always present. I love you very much Mum. 🩷

Happy 100th birthday to David Attenborough — the man who made so many of us fall in love with wildlife and the natural world.

I love that there are species named after him, including the incredibly rare Attenborough’s long-beaked echidna. A species so elusive it was once thought to possibly be extinct before signs of it were found again in recent years.

Australia has honoured him too. There’s Attenborougharion rubicundus, a bright red Tasmanian semi-slug, the extinct marsupial lion Microleo attenboroughi discovered in Queensland, and even a Queensland goblin spider called Prethopalpus attenboroughi. Honestly feels very Australian that some tiny weird little creatures ended up carrying his name.

The echidna in this reel is actually a Short-beaked echidna… because I don’t have any long-beaked echidna photos in my camera roll… yet…

For decades, David Attenborough has helped people see animals not just as creatures, but as lives worth protecting. Pretty amazing legacy to leave behind.

Happy 100th, Sir David.
