Nic + Jay. Hayman Island.
I think this wedding is such a good reminder that you really can just do your wedding however you want.
Photos meant A LOT to these two, so instead of spending cocktail hour doing what you’re apparently “supposed” to do at cocktail hour, we disappeared.
We jumped on a buggy and went exploring around Hayman Island looking for little pockets of light, weird frames, whatever caught our eye. We found an old bike.
We played around.
And eventually they ended up in the ocean in their full wedding clothes.
Definitely not your traditional Hayman Island wedding photos.
And honestly, that was the whole point.
Their wedding was small, intimate and every part of it felt like them.
Secret letters for their guests, emotions running VERY high, walking down the aisle to RÜFÜS DU SOL’s Innerbloom 😭 and actually giving themselves time to enjoy the parts of the day that mattered to them.
I think sometimes couples forget they have permission to do that.
You don’t have to spend cocktail hour at cocktail hour.
You don’t have to disappear for 20 minutes of rushed couple photos because that’s what fits into a traditional timeline.
You don’t have to do ANYTHING just because that’s how weddings are normally done.
Want two hours to disappear around an island and make some really cool photos? Do it.
Want to jump in the ocean afterwards? Even better.
Build the day around the things you actually care about.
And if you’re planning a destination wedding somewhere incredible and want a photographer who’s very happy to disappear on an adventure with you...
I’m in. Send me a DM and tell me what you’re dreaming up.
