I want every mum to know that your home is perfect.
I want every mum to know you don’t need to clean your windows or dust the cabinets.
You don’t need a trendy nursery or a main suite fit for a cover of a magazine.
This is where you brought them home.
This is where you nursed them.
If there’s character or meaning in a corner or doorstep I’m going to use it.
You don’t need to have it all figured out.
Asleep. Awake. Settled or unsettled. Breast. Bottle. Caesarean. Vaginal. I’m here for you every step of the way.
I expect you’re tired and maybe even in pain from birth still.
So let the dishes pile up, don’t worry about the stray nappy on the floor.
Have someone who can find the beauty in the light and the shadow of a time that is nothing but light and shadow.
Have someone who will never forget what these days were like because they imprinted on my soul so deeply and I’ve felt a natural calling to be in the presence of newborn mothers ever since.
Have these days recorded with honesty and awe to take you back to the light and shadow of when you were born a mother again.
