Don’t be afraid to do things differently.

You might be thinking that a headshot = mugshot (you know, blank wall, eyeballing camera, stiff smile). Or products have to be shot against a blank, white wall.

But if your brand doesn’t fit that, you don’t have to buy into it!

If we peel away the layers, brand photos give you an opportunity to introduce you and/or your team to potential clients/customers in your website and marketing.

A photo of a product has the opportunity to create a feeling in your customers of what it’s like to have that in their hands.

So let’s get creative!

Picture this - you sponsor your local sports club, or donate something to a fundraiser in your local community.

New people get introduced to your business.
They see your brand, start to think about whether you can help them with something.
So they start exploring further to see if they want to take a leap and buy from you.

What do they see when they head to your website, or your social media page?

Do they see images that represent what you do, and introduce you and your team? Or do they find generic stock images, or photos taken from google images?

Having photos that have been created for YOUR business is a game changer when trying to grow your business.

If you run a business in the country, you know that word of mouth marketing is your best tool.

But when people that don't know you want to find out more about you or your offers before they buy, what are they finding in your online spaces?

If the answer is text based information and stock images, you're missing out on opportunities to connect!

Maybe you don’t want to show off, or you’re worried about what people might say about you, but try and put yourself into the shoes of the people who don't know what you can offer them.

Having a strong (and real!) visual presence in your marketing helps new people to connect with you, and your current clients and customers will love seeing and supporting you!

Day well spent with Amelia from Mel & Co Bo***ir & Michelle Mummary (Mortgage Broker) at the first of three "Marketing for Regional Businesses" workshops. We had lots of great discussion about business & marketing foundations and understanding the customer journey, as well as the online tools we can use to make our lives easier.

Taking a day away from your business to work ON it is not an easy thing to agree to so I'm so grateful (and a little proud!) that these two incredible business women chose to spend the day stepping outside of their comfort zone in order to grow.

The next two workshops will be delivered outside of "regular" business hours to allow those of you that couldn't make today work to come along.

That’s why I’ve made sure that the workshop structure allows time at the end of the day for action, but you can take off early if you need to get to pickup or you need to get back to actually doing what you do.

Everything costs either time or money. That's the reality. Your success as a small business owner relies on you being efficient with both.

When you know what to say, the right people listen. Understanding the decision making process that your customers go through, the tools that are available to help you, and how you can approach your marketing in a holistic way (not just relying on social media!) will help you to become more efficient as a business owner.

Marketing for Regional Businesses Workshop is on next Thursday 22nd May in Port Pirie and I would absolutely love to have you there. No one does the same thing as you (even if they offer a similar product or service). Having a clear marketing approach is what will make you stand out to the RIGHT people.

For example, I’m a family photographer. But I don’t promote my business as the perfect portrait experience, because it’s far from that. My experience is fun and relaxed, and I encourage embracing life as it is, even if that looks messy and overwhelming.

I make this clear in my messaging, so when someone comes into contact with my website or social media, they can tell straight away whether I’m the photographer for them or not. I’m helping them in their decision making process by making it clear how I can help to solve their problems.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or already have it a little bit figured out, spending a day working on your marketing and messaging in a room with other business owners is an opportunity to get clear on what will work best for your unique business to connect with your perfect customers (and even convert some!).
