What started as a love for art and photography has grown into something much deeper. 🖤
My name is Miesa (pronounced “Meee-sa”) and I’m completely obsessed with the ocean and the stories that exist within and around it.
My connection to the natural world started long before I ever picked up a camera.
Growing up in South Africa, I was deeply connected to the land and her people. I grew up with a fascination for the bush, wildlife and the feeling of being somewhere that exists far beyond us. I think that stayed with me, even as my life eventually pulled me towards the ocean.
The last four years have pushed me toward a path I never could have imagined - teaching, freediving, working on the water, marine science and spending so much of my life underwater with a camera in my hands.
It’s been incredibly inspiring, but it’s also been heartbreaking and eye-opening. The more time I spend in the ocean, the more I see both the incredible resilience of our natural world and the impact we are having on it. It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed by everything we’re losing, but it’s also made me realise just how much there is worth fighting for.
Being able to experience the ocean like this has been one of my greatest privileges.
