Zara is 1yo, and she wanted absolutely nothing to do with my plan 😅

She wanted the table. Then she wanted off the table. Then she wanted to be held, then definitely NOT held, and then she spotted something far more interesting happening somewhere behind me...

And this is the bit I wish more parents knew. I don’t need a one year old to sit still, because a one year old sitting still isn’t really a one year old at all. Am I right?

What I need is time and a bit of patience, and a willingness to follow her lead rather than fight it. The second you stop asking a toddler to perform, they start showing you exactly who they are.

I mean.... look at that face! That’s not a face you can ask for on command 🥰

Anna said she couldn’t believe I got these photos, and honestly, that’s one of my favourite things to hear, because it means I got the real her 🫶

Anna booked this photoshoot from the middle of a supermarket aisle. 😄

She’d been messaging a girlfriend that morning about what a year it had been, one of those years where you’re just getting through it… and then that night she was scrolling in bed and came across my work.

She told me later she took it as her sign. If she didn’t actually do something right then, it was never going to happen.

So we did the whole booking thing over the phone while she pushed a trolley around and apologised for squeezing past people 😅 Date locked, done, and she was back to the shopping 🛒

The thing is, she’d been meaning to do this for six years. Judd was only six weeks old when the world shut down in 2020, so all the photos she’d pictured of her firstborn never happened.

Then Zara arrived and the window closed again, because life is busy with a family. I’d say if I had a dollar for every mum who’s told me she’s been meaning to do this, I’d be living in a mansion by now!

Anna, Jordan, Judd and Zara, thank you for a morning that was equal parts chaos and cuddles.

Worth the wait, wasn’t it? 😘

Our 6th photo shoot together 🥹 🫶

Last time I saw this family, it was for a generations shoot when their youngest was just a baby. And now she has personality plus! 🥰

Watching my past wedding couples turn into family clients is literally my most favourite thing!
