Visited the Paruna Sanctuary today. With the Numbat & Quenda trails still closed, I went on the short Possum Loop Trail. Did a little off trail exploring and still many varieties of wildflowers out with two orchid varieties also thrown in the mix. Delightful short meander, not many other people came but guess with only one short trail open it doesn’t appeal to many. I hope the other two trails open again next year 🤞
Paruna Sanctuary closes after this Sunday 1st of November and won’t reopen until May 2027.

Back from holidays and went out to Wandoo National Park yesterday to find the native orchids all but almost finished. Tried 4 locations. 2 locations had no orchids at all. All 4 locations very dry and barren. I have noticed more wildflowers in previous years. This must be the new normal unfortunately as WA becomes more dry and hotter.
Note to self, don’t bother going to Wandoo National Park in October!
Visited Warwick Bushland as well with 5 leopard orchids open and quite a few in bud.

Went on a little road trip this time to Julimar and West Toodyay finding Orchids. Almost gave up on finding the Yellow China Orchid but found a whole bunch at a random last stop freshly opening up with many in bud close to opening. Yay! A win finally 😆

Huge orchid road trip!
August 30th 2026
Too early for Dragon Orchids but many Crimson Spiders at Congelin Campground and thinking it was too early for Chapman Spiders, found many at Yilliminning Rock picnic area. Absolutely delighted! Mozzies were horrendous though - note to bring mozzie repellent spray in future!
Last stop with the sun setting for the day was the Blood Spider Orchids off Brookton Highway. Cute how people have placed branches around each orchid like walls to protect them. Made them easy to spot as well!
Orchid with the most impact of the day was the Sugar Orchid! Appearing everywhere and in droves!

Two quick days to find orchids in the Kalbarri region. Not bad. Two new ones. Unfortunately couldn’t find some orchids on my target list. Quite difficult actually looking for orchids here. Looked in many places and have to say Kalbarri is a Mecca for wildflowers more than native orchids. Wildflowers absolutely everywhere and colourful blooms exploding in the coastal heaths. No orchids around the town itself. These taken in the National Park and Yerina Springs Road.

Returned to Eneabba today after some years of hiatus to find the northern beauty QOS again. 💕
Which I found several flowering amongst other orchids.
