I've been around drag strips for a very long time, and one of the things I have always enjoyed is talking to fans in the stands during downtimes in the on track action.
One of the questions I always ask is "what do you hope to see during the event?"
The fuel cars always get first mentions, obvious probably, but without doubt the most popular answer after that is "anything that pulls the wheels up high".
Everyone loves a wheelstand, always spectacular as the front defies all laws of gravity and physics to give us a look underneath.
This Top Sportsman sedan owned by Aaron Sumpton and Yvette Gregg, and driven by the latter, never fails to leave the fans without a great memory of the best on track launches, and another opportunity for me to catch their action.

The big news came yesterday that Russell Taylor, the current Top Doorslammer champ has decided to end his campaign in the OGL backed, Camaro, sadly effective immediately.
Always a bonus when you can go out knowing that everything in the game plan had been achieved, and Russell and the team certainly did that. Back to back championships starting in your rookie year will be a memory for the future, and many other performance marks left in the history books.
Back to back championships and many many races won at tracks across the country, Russell will be sorely missed in the pits.
Always intense and focused he was a tough competitor on track, but always had plenty of time for his army of fans.
Thanks for the great memories and shots that you gave me Russell, it was always a pleasure. Good luck in whatever is next for you.

Sydney Dragway 2015 and the TODAY show was there doing live weather crosses for media with Steve Jacobs as part of the promotion for Graeme Cowin's funny car show.
It was arranged that Steve would go for a ride in the three seater dragster and then wave off the wheelstanders in action at the next cross.
Probably fair to say that Steve was "apprehensive" before the pass, and may or may not have uttered the word which must not be heard on the telly when he got back to the line and describing his thoughts and experience of it all.

Been away and having a whole heap of fun with my favourite girl and family in Adelaide, so been behind in posts.
Starting again with the ultimate excitement machine and like nothing on earth - a Top Fuel -dragster at launch, 12,000 horsepower set free.
Shown here is Shane Olive at the 2022 Goldenstates Championships carrying the fronts, flames standing high.

This memory is from the 2022 Westernationals and sees Mark Drew - Nitro Harley on his Top Fuel motorcycle, again showing clearly the sheer enormity of these machines that riders wrestle down the quarter carrying the front for most of each run.

I don't have much info on this bike since I got this shot of Mark Drew riding the new Top Fuel bike in partnership with Chris Matheson, after Chris retired Nitro Voodoo.
This was captured at the opening event at Dragway at the Bend in 2023. It was a very impressive debut, and got a lot of attention, but I am unaware of what has happened since.
If you can give us all an update on the current status, and if or when we might see it back on track, we would all be grateful.

The MAN himself Chris "Nitro Voodoo" Matheson
The first Top Fuel Motorcycle rider in Australia to put a sub six second pass in the books, making history in 2023.
Chris is seen here in full flight at the 2012 Winternationals.
This shot shows the extent and overall size of what a fuel bike is, and the attitude required to wrestle it down the quatrer.
