17 dogs, 4 hours and over $800 raised for Greyhound Adoptions WA!

I've written a little blog about our recent charity photoshoot at Pet O Joondalup PetO Joondalup, featuring some of the wonderful dogs who came along and made the morning such a success.

All very different personalities and a photographer whose back was less enthusiastic by the end of it.

If you have a few minutes, do have a read and enjoy the photographs. And if you feel like sharing it, I'd be very grateful. The more people who hear about these events, the more we can hopefully raise for local animal rescue charities.

Here's the story (and the dogs, of course):

Our pet photography fundraiser at PetO Joondalup raised over $700 for Greyhound Adoptions WA, with 16 dogs photographed.

O S C A R

Some gentlemen grow old gracefully. Others, like Oscar, do it with an extraordinary amount of hair and a face that's quite impossible to resist.

This lovely Bichon Frise was an absolute delight to photograph, and it was a pleasure to create some beautiful portraits for his mum to treasure.

Our pets are never with us quite long enough, which is why I believe their portraits deserve a little more than a quick snap. I take my time, work at their pace and aim to capture all those little details that make them so special.

If you've been thinking about having your dog or cat professionally photographed, I'd love to welcome you to my Ocean Reef studio. After all, they're part of the family, and their portraits should be every bit as special.

SAGE & LUNA – TWO BEAUTIFUL GIRLS LOOKING FOR A HOME TOGETHER

Meet Sage and Luna, a gorgeous bonded pair of Exotic cats who are looking for a loving forever home through Deedlebug Cat Rescue.
Sage, a white-and-tabby Exotic Shorthair, is an affectionate little soul who adores following her humans around, enjoying a cuddle and finding the perfect spot for an afternoon snooze.
Luna, a beautiful blue British Exotic, is a little more reserved initially, but soon reveals her delightful personality. She loves affection on her own terms and is particularly fond of sunshine and bird-watching.
These lovely girls are devoted to one another and must be adopted together.
Their ideal home would be calm, strictly dog-free and with plenty of love to give. Respectful children over ten would be welcome. A secure outdoor cat enclosure would be wonderful for Luna, who enjoys a little fresh air and watching the world go by.
Adoption fee: $1,200 for both, including all veterinary work, vaccinations, microchipping and sterilisation.
Location: Alexander Heights, Perth.
If you have room in your heart and home for two rather special ladies, Sage and Luna would love to meet you.

And finally, the last 5 of our 17 beautiful dogs from the Pet O Joondalup fundraiser.
It was a pleasure meeting them all and helping raise funds for Greyhound Adoptions WA.
At my Ocean Reef studio, things are rather different. There's time for dogs to settle, for their personalities to emerge and for me to create a beautiful collection of portraits. Some families bring several dogs or cats (or even chickens), others include themselves in the photographs too.
Because the relationships we share with our animals deserve to be remembered, and there is rarely just one side of their personality worth capturing.
Thank you again to everyone who supported the day.

Another 4 of Saturday's lovely characters.
We take hundreds of photographs of our dogs on our phones, usually doing something ridiculous or looking particularly pleased with themselves.
But there’s something rather special about a beautifully crafted portrait that captures those little expressions and quirks we know and love so well, while sometimes revealing a side of our companions we hadn’t quite noticed before.
After all, there's more to a dog's (or cat's) personality than can be captured in a single photograph, when, in that moment, everything falls away.
These 4 beauties certainly gave me plenty to work with.

4 more faces from Saturday's fundraiser, and 4 very different personalities.
One of the pleasures of photographing dogs (and cats) is that no two are remotely alike. Some arrive full of confidence, others are a little more reserved, and a few have quite definite opinions about the whole business.
The trick is knowing when to wait, when to engage and when to let them simply be themselves. Having achieved Reiki II level, I feel it’s a transference of energy between me and my subject.
It's in those brief moments that the best portraits are created.

17 wonderful dogs, 16 portraits and a very worthwhile cause.
On Saturday, Pet O Joondalup hosted our pet portrait fundraiser in support of Greyhound Adoptions WA. For a $49 donation, each family received a beautiful portrait of their dog, with every dollar going to the charity. Together, we raised over $800 for the Greyhounds.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along, and to the dogs who behaved with varying degrees of cooperation.
Here are the first four of our distinguished sitters: Benji, Milo, Peggy and Nyx. More to follow.
