2020 has been a challenging year within the photographic industry, but despite these challenges I have been fortunate enough to work on some wonderful projects.

Today marks 20 years since the closure of steelmaking in Newcastle.

Opening last Tuesday night to a large crowd at the Newcastle University Gallery was my retrospective exhibition entitled Steel Life. Shot two decades ago the exhibition coincides with the closure of steelmaking 20 year anniversary. It shows the demolition of BHP’s Newcastle steelworks. All images are shot on film using large and medium format cameras. It took me 2 years to photograph and 9 months to print. There are 55 images and will open until 19 Oct 2019. Come and have a look.
Thanks to Justin Worboys Photography and Frank Bergman Photography for the images.

It’s been a hectic start for 2019 but there are a number of very engaging and challenging projects locked in already.
A new website with over 250 new images and an exhibition in September makes for a very interesting year.
Here are a few images of some recent projects.

Today I had the honour and the pleasure of opening and being guest speaker at the exhibition entitled “Steel” at Lake Macquarie Art Gallery. It’s a wonderful exhibition that shows the many ways steel is used in our everyday lives.
My presentation also allowed me to show and talk about my career and discuss my steelworks images.
I took the two cameras I used 20 years ago to make these images which made for great interaction.
I started my talk with 4 photographs taken during my career.
1) RAAF photographer.
2) industrial photographer for BHP. 3) current commercial, industrial and architectural photographer.
I loved using these cameras.

Finally, I have finished the Newspace project. It was such a pleasure to photograph but it also had many challenges. Here are a few of the images.
As I said in an earlier post the beauty of great architecture is it has the power to transport you to a place or to a time purely from your imagination.
Congratulations to the University of Newcastle, Lyons Architecture of Melbourne, EJE architecture of Newcastle and Hansen Yuncken.

The world of commercial photography always offers up many and varied challenges and this year has been no exception. A “selfie” campaign for Waterford County and imagery for a new aged care facility were just 2 projects that are currently on Billboards and buses in Newcastle.

This year my work has featured in the Newcastle Herald, The Age, SMH, The Australian, Australian Geographic, The Guardian, Hunter Lifestyle, The New York Times and many brochures and websites.
Here are a few of the images.

Recently I had the pleasure of photographing this project. Located on a large rural allotment in the Hunter Valley vineyard precinct, this award winning residence is a fusion of the Australian country homestead vernacular with traditional Chinese Architectural influences. The Architects were Bede Campbell and Michael Rodgers from EJE Architecture and the builder was Lance Murray Quality Homes.
