It’s incredibly meaningful to have my work exhibited beyond regional Queensland and to see it positioned within a broader artistic context.

My practice shaped by living in North and Far North Queensland, its light, flora, and environment, and its exhibition outside of this space allows the work to be experienced through new perspectives.

Being curated into this exhibition at Studio on Brunswick is an exciting step forward, an opportunity for the work to extend beyond its origin and enter into a wider conversation.

Being curated into this exhibition at Studio on Brunswick is an exciting step forward, bringing part of my Lightborne series, the black and white works into this new context is particularly exciting.

By removing colour, the focus shifts to structure, line, and tension between strength and fragility, which should resonate differently depending on the audience and the surrounding works.

Seeing how these pieces sit alongside other artists, outside my region and beyond photography, offers me valuable insight into photography's place in a broader contemporary art conversation.

Members Exhibition - a fallen orchid I collected from an Orchid Society member, dried on my desk, photographed in a fashioned light box with elements from Kodak & Kmart 🙌🏻 . If only I had the time to procure an interesting framing method 🤷🏻‍♀️ that’ll be something for future Vicki to think about.

In Lightbourne, the flower is abstracted to become a vessel for reflection. Macro photography expands what is minuscule, allowing the viewer to see what would otherwise remain unseen. Two visual languages have emerged; here, we see that structure has been released to highlight colour and the emotions that this can evoke.
