We’re now in Kimberley country, rough and rugged beauty steeped in song lines.
It’s literally the Wild West out here with rough as guts roads, corrugated and dotted with razor sharp rocks, water crossings where saltwater crocs and water snakes lie in wait and dust covering everything.
We were privileged to take a tour with a local Indigenous guide into the Mimbi Caves, a Devonian reef system that was once under water, and hear their stories, see cave art and learn about their tools.
Spectacular bird life, sunrises and street art greeted us in Kununurra.
We’re back onto the Gibb at El Questro where we went rock scrambling with the reward of a refreshing swim at Emma Gorge yesterday.
Five more days in WA and then we head across into NT and ‘go down the guts’ as they say. What an adventure.
