If being the centre of attention is something you or your fiancé are quietly dreading about your wedding, having a photographer who understands that — and simply lets you be yourselves — can make all the difference.

I’m naturally quiet and a little introverted, and over the years I’ve realised that these are actually some of the qualities that make me a better wedding photographer.

I notice things. I give you space.
And I’m happy to stay in the background while you get on with enjoying your wedding.

After more than 15 years of photographing weddings in Melbourne, I’ve found that many of my couples are a lot like me — they’d rather experience the moment than perform for the camera.

Sault Daylesford Wedding.

One of the things I love most about photographing weddings at Sault Restaurant in Daylesford is how peaceful it feels. From the beautiful gardens to the chapel and surrounding countryside, it’s a wedding venue that invites you to slow down and simply be present.

Kelleyene and Murat’s wedding brought together two cultures—Singaporean and Turkish—surrounded by family, heartfelt speeches, and one of Victoria’s most beautiful wedding venues.

Both quiet by nature, they planned a day that reflected exactly who they are.

A slow morning.
Private vows before the ceremony.
Family and friends gathered in Sault’s chapel.

When V & Vu reached out about photographing their wedding at home, I was immediately drawn in.

There’s something about backyard weddings that feels deeply personal—less performance, more presence. And over the many years of photographing weddings, the personal ones always end up being my favourite.

Their day wasn’t about transforming a space—it was about letting a familiar one hold something meaningful.

It was a scorcher of a Melbourne summer’s day. The ceremony began around 3pm, family and close friends gathered in the backyard, heat be damned. And then the celebrations began—an open bar in their kitchen. Conversations spilling into the backyard. Generous food served right on their deck. And, as the sun dipped, the living room turned into a dance floor. No strict timelines. No change of location. Just one continuous rhythm—from ceremony to laughter to dancing.

Backyard weddings have a way of softening people. Shoes come off, ties loosen.

There are moments that quietly change the direction of your life.

For Matt and Tessa, it was a near-death experience while travelling overseas. The months that followed were spent recovering in hospital, and somewhere during that season they realised something.

They had already built a life together. They shared a home, a future, and a relationship that already felt like a marriage. They didn’t need a wedding to validate any of that. But they did want a reason to gather the people they loved most.

Tussie Mussie, a private home and boutique winery tucked away in Red Hill on the Mornington Peninsula, felt like the perfect place to do exactly that. Intimate, relaxed and surrounded by vines, it felt less like a wedding venue and more like inviting everyone into their home.

What unfolded didn’t feel like a traditional wedding.

It felt like a community coming together.

Family and friends helped set up before guests arrived. Food was shared by the people closest to them. When a passing shower interrupted the afternoon, everyone simply pitched in—drying plates, glasses and cutlery before settling back into the celebration. No one minded. In fact, it somehow made the day feel even more meaningful.

There was no pressure for perfection. No elaborate production. Just good food, good wine, heartfelt conversations and the people who had walked alongside them through one of life’s most challenging seasons.

Every part of the day reflected who Matt and Tessa are. Honest. Uncomplicated. Generous. Full of heart.

Some weddings celebrate the beginning of a marriage.

This one celebrated something just as beautiful—the people who make life meaningful, the joy of simply being together, and the chance to gather around a table with the ones you love. It was exactly what Matt and Tessa had hoped for.

Karuizawa is a small mountain town just an hour from Tokyo — and interestingly, it doesn’t feel very Japanese at all.

Karuizawa has long been a summer escape for locals, and you can feel that gentler rhythm the moment you arrive. There’s a softness to it. Wide, tree-lined paths. European-style cottages. A quiet stillness that feels more alpine retreat than bustling Tokyo. It’s exactly why Colin & Kylie chose it for their wedding — to be in Japan, surrounded by locals rather than tourists.

Because of that, it took a couple of hours of driving to find corners that hinted we were still in Japan — a vegetable farm tucked between mountains, an old wooden heritage home with weathered beams and a tiled roof, a quiet street lined with simple storefronts. I’m glad I got to wander and find them.

Vettri & Vivienne were married on a soft spring day at Yering Station in Yarra Valley, surrounded by the people they love most. Two cultures, one beautiful celebration — and a love that felt completely at home in both.

There’s something I always notice at weddings like this — the way different families, different traditions, different worlds all find their way to the same feeling. Joy looks the same in every language, and that day it was everywhere.

It’s always such a privilege to be trusted with a day like this. To be quietly present for the moments that matter most, and to bring them home in a way that lasts.

For the engaged couples in Melbourne who feel a little uneasy in front of a camera - this one's for you.

"We don't really like getting our photo taken."
I hear this from 80% of my couples — and honestly, I know that feeling.
Truth be told, I'm like that too.

I'm not looking for the perfect pose. I'm looking for the quiet glances, the laugh you didn't plan — the look you give each other when you think no one is watching.
My approach is subtle and unobtrusive. As for portraits, we won't disappear for hours. I guide rather than direct, and most couples are back at the party before they know it.
