For over a year now I've been participating in 52Frames, which has been both inspiring and challenging. A new theme given every week with the photos having to be taken during that week. There have been some weeks where I really wasn't sure what I was going to do as there were themes I'd never really tried before. But it has been enjoyable.

I'm up to week 70 (for me) which was 'Inspired by a Photographer'. I chose Ken Duncan who is a well known Australian landscape photographer. My subject - the local lake at Birdsland Reserve in Belgrave Heights near to my home. And because Ken is a Christian, as I am also, I felt adding a bible verse very fitting. 'As water reflects the face, so one's life reflects the heart' Proverbs 27:19.

Never seen this happen before - have you?
Didn't realise I had this shot till I was going through my photos on my computer.
Taken at Stamford Park, Rowville, Vic with my P950 this morning.

EDIT: Interesting - I thought people would read my post as well as look at the photo. Yes, I know it's a Great Egret - I say so above! But just thought the shape and the way it sat on the water was very swan like.

Have you ever seen the claws of a Pied Currawong? If you can, enlarge the image to have a close look at the first claw on each foot - known as the hallux. Amazing. Never seen that before as they're always clutched around a branch. Taken in my garden this afternoon.

Lovely surprise at Birdsland Reserve, Vic this morning - went there earlier than I've been for quite sometime and it paid off!

I'd noticed several Australasian Darters there and the sun shining through the feet of one in particular. I then noticed a similar colouring to the feet a bit further along only when I zoomed in, it wasn't the feet of a Darter but an Azure Kingfisher!

eBird indicated it had never been reported there before and was a 'non-species' of the area. Well, I've reported it now - wonder how many others will see it, if at all? No idea if it was passing through or if it will stay for awhile. It did catch at least one small fish but flew back in amongst the branches to consume it, so I missed getting shots of that.

I wandered around our garden recently and saw a flash of colour in our fig tree. I moved position to get a better view and zoomed in to watch this Rainbow Lorikeet as it enjoyed a fig from the tree. It was aware of me but didn't move away - it was obviously enjoying what it had. I was a distance away and zoomed in with my P950 to 2000mm to get this shot. I love the colours, don't you? Such a gorgeous bird.

Did you see that? That's what it looks like this bird might be thinking. Those amazing eyes! This is a Black-shouldered Kite, often referred to as a BSK by birders. This one seen at the Western Treatment Plant some time ago. I always love seeing them and getting shots.

Not a perfect shot, but you can't plan these things. This was taken with my phone.

I'd come out to see how my husband was going working in the garden when I noticed he had a kookaburra closely watching him. The kooka turned in his direction wherever my husband went. But then Graham decided to pose near the kookaburra and the bird turned and looked at me at just the right time! How special is that? I've been told I should print and frame this shot and I'm going to do just that! Don't get opportunities like this often. Usually they fly off.

And for those who don't live in Australia, Kookaburras are opportunists. They eat worms, snails, slugs, bugs, lizards, frogs and even snakes and fish. Whatever they can grab. They have learnt if someone is working in a garden or even mowing, there is always a snack to be had. And on this occasion the kookaburra did get several worms and a small frog too.

More photos from Tesselaar's Kabloom Festival yesterday. This is held every Autumn in Silvan, Victoria, Australia which isn't far from my home. My friend John and I went together to enjoy the scenery and the beautiful day.
