10 Years of ShotsBySal Photography
900 piccies on Instagram—a true showcase of growing on the go.
1000 snaps on SnapsBySal (let’s be honest, probably all of Black Mountain framed by foliage).
This feels like the perfect moment to pause, put the Canon down, switch off Lightroom, and say thank you. Whether you’ve been here since the beginning or just stumbled across my work this week—I'm so grateful.
7-year-old Sal, with her flimsy point-and-shoot camera wouldn’t believe where she is now. Tourism Australia buying photo rights? Features in print and online media? A few years into snazzy calendars, press previews, and capturing the most special moments for families, couples, and small biz legends.
I’ve had phenomenal mentors along the way—starting with Mr Scott Pearce, who taught Year 5 Sal media skills,
and Mr Andrew Kay, who made photography not just pulse through my veins, but click in my brain.
To the town of Higashikawa in Hokkaido, Japan—thank you for inviting me not once, but twice, to represent Australia in the International Town of Photography. Lightning struck twice, and I hope I keep earning it.
To Ro and Sharon—who found teen Sal when the biz and tech side needed nurturing, and her belief needed feeding—thank you.
Big love to the many bosses who’ve hired me knowing I come with a camera attached and eyes always scanning for magic. The BHills and Cook Grocer teams- my product and event photography roots run deep in hospo and checkout-chick days.
To those who’ve posed or snapped alongside me—thank you. Abby and Adhyan, thanks for saying yes to second-shooting and sharing special days with me.
Thanks to my grounding, patient fam—my first subjects and, no surprise, still my toughest critics.
A few months ago, I revisited my decade-old logo. What is ShotsBySal now? I played with Canberra’s floral emblem—the Royal Bluebell—alongside native banksias, waratahs, my dear tower, and of course, a camera to capture it all. The refreshed logo is here, and the merch? A uniform I thought I’d share.
Here’s to another 10 years behind the lens.
