October’s ending.

Looking back through these sessions really makes me realise how quickly this year has gone.

So many dogs, so many stories, so many little moments I got to be part of.

It’s also been a harder year than I expected in a lot of ways, and there have definitely been moments that have been tough. But I’m very grateful for the work, the people, and the dogs that have kept bringing little bits of joy into each month. Thank you so much for letting me capture these precious moments and memories for you, for letting me share the connection and love you have for your pets.

Here’s to getting through the year one month at a time. 🤍

My session with Trixie 🤍

Trixie came into Anne’s life because of a slightly bent tail that meant she couldn't be shown. But that little tail certainly hasn't stopped her from doing plenty of other things!

Even as a puppy, Trixie was full of confidence, climbing all over her littermates and making sure everyone knew she was there.

She's gone on to compete in tricks, rally and scent work, winning quite a few places along the way. Including one competition where she won $10 for coming second... after paying a $15 entry fee. 😂

Not exactly a profitable day, but still a win!

Anne describes Trixie as the best watchdog but a terrible guard dog, and a proper Mumma's girl who gives the best hugs.

I think that sums her up pretty nicely. A clever little girl with plenty of personality and a very soft side for her favourite person.

Be honest, how many photos of your dog are on your phone compared to photos of the two of you? 😂

I think most dog owners are guilty of this. We take hundreds of photos of our dogs doing absolutely nothing, but somehow rarely end up in any ourselves.

And I get it! Not everyone enjoys having their photo taken.

That's actually one of the reasons I love doing Barking Beautiful sessions. You don't need to be good at posing or know what to do in front of the camera.

I'll help you through it, and we'll spend plenty of time just hanging out with your dog.

My session with Nixie and Nike 🤍

These two might have very different personalities, but they definitely have one thing in common. They love having a job to do!

Both are rescues from Dogs4Jobs, coming from different parts of regional NSW. Nike joined Claire at seven months old, followed by Nixie at just four months.

Nike is the quieter, shyer one who likes to take his time, while Nixie is a little firecracker who seems ready for just about anything. 😂

Claire was actually encouraged to adopt Nixie because of his potential for dog sports. Nike was already involved in plenty of them, so now the two get to enjoy that together.

I love that they've both found a home where their energy, personalities and love of working can really shine.

Is your dog the energetic type, a quiet observer, or a little bit of everything? 🐾

After photographing so many dogs, one thing I've learned is that no two sessions should look exactly the same.

Some dogs need room to run and play. Others need a little more time to feel comfortable. And sometimes, the best photos happen when we simply let them do their own thing.

My session with Lucy 🤍

Lucy joined Henry and Jenn's family in early 2024, just as they were settling into their new home.

Henry had always had a soft spot for black Labradors, so when a friend spotted Lucy up for adoption through Canberra Pet Rescue, it didn't take much convincing. They met her, fell in love, and soon enough she was home with them.

Lucy is apparently a very sweet, cuddly girl who rarely gets into trouble.

Except for one very memorable pizza incident. 😂

One evening, Henry and Jenn had made pizza, and the temptation was just too much for Lucy. The moment they turned their backs, she grabbed the entire thing and made a run for the bedroom, dragging it toppings-down across their brand new carpet.

Henry described the aftermath as looking like a crime scene. 😂

Thankfully, there was another pizza in the oven, and Lucy was quickly forgiven.

I love hearing these funny little stories about the dogs I photograph. Even the best-behaved ones have their moments!

What's something your dog does that you find ridiculously cute? 😂

I always love hearing about the little habits and quirks that make each dog who they are.

Some are incredibly affectionate, some have absolutely no concept of personal space, and others have their own funny ways of getting your attention.

I love getting to know these things before a session because they help me understand how you and your dog interact.

My session with Koko 🤍

Koko had quite the journey before making it home to Susan.

At the time, the only litter Susan could find was all the way in Tasmania. So Koko flew across to Melbourne, where Susan picked her up, and the two made the drive back to Canberra together.

A flight and a road trip before she’d even properly settled into her new life 😂
Sometimes finding the right dog means looking a little further from home, and Koko was definitely worth the trip.
