Working with extreme macro is challenging. The shallow depth of field at 5x magnification requires some special know-how and a few extra tools. In this case:

Venus Optics Laowa 25mm f/2.8 2.5-5X Ultra Macro Lens
NiSi Macro Focusing Rail
Helicon Focus software

This shot is comprised of 50 shots through the frame, moving the lens incrementally using the focus rail. The shots are then stacked and rendered in Helicon Focus (which does an amazing job, btw).

In other news, I'm being considered for a $25k grant to publish my photobook. The competition is fierce, so I am trying to keep appropriate expectations (but I'm very excited nonetheless). Grant will be awarded in October.

1A Graflex folding reflex camera, manufactured by the Folmer & Schwing division of the Eastman Kodak Company.

Photo Nerd stuff:

Lens: It is equipped with a Kodak Anastigmat f/6.3 lens.

Format: This model was produced from roughly 1909 - 1914 and was unique because it combined a single-lens reflex (SLR) viewing hood design with a folding body built specifically to use 1A roll film (producing 2½ x 4¼ inch negatives) rather than traditional heavy glass plates.

Shutter: Like most classic Graflex cameras, it utilizes a highly sophisticated focal plane shutter capable of reaching fast action-stopping speeds up to 1/1000th of a second.

It's in pretty rough shape, but the bellows are actually in good condition. Possible restoration project??

The countdown to Copenhagen has begun. Because this trip is about exploring a new city (and doing some ancestral research), it is not necessarily "photo-centric." As such, my approach will be much the same as when I went to Australia earlier this year.

Instead of taking my wonderful and awesome Nikon rig, I'll once again be traveling light with only my trusty Fujifilm X100VI in hand. Since I bought this camera primarily for street photography, the bustling city of Copenhagen should prove to be an excellent source of material!
