'What should we wear?' is the most common question I get from families preparing for their family photoshoot. There is, of course, no one answer to this question but there are certain choices that I find really look good for getting timeless family photos.

I've updated my blog up to share them with you to hopefully save you some time and give you some inspo when planning for your session.

Once you're booked, I provide advice customised to your family - so you're not left on your own wondering how to dress four people to 'match' but not be 'matchy'

Just marvelling at what a joy it is to get to come back and capture the new moments of my people's lives. The big emotional pieces of engagements, weddings, pregnancies and births certainly. But I think just as special, those in-betweens of growing into new roles, learning new ways and exploring this world with fresh eyes.

Looking back over these sessions, I'm taken back to the dramatic shifts of life: from bringing a baby home amongst COVID quarantines to playing in the park having moved to a new home, a new state. The growing as a family, seeing a wonderful new personality emerge. Thank you for trusting me to come back and keep telling your story.

It was such an honour to be able to capture this moment of life with you Jas, as this hot afternoon on the beach melted into sunset.

Even though pregnancy hadn't been as easy journey, I so admire the way you took this afternoon as a way to really celebrate your body, your femininity, being alive in this moment under the sun. Sandy, wet, playful, owning it all.

You would not believe how many of my clients tell me 'we are not photo people', 'we've never done this before!' or even, 'we've had this done once before at our wedding but we're still not good at it!'

Almost 100% of the photos you see on my page are people who 'aren't photo people'. You are not alone and you can absolutely still have great photos.

Just turn up and be with the people you love. I'll do the rest.

I have some personal photos that are beautiful - beautiful places, people I love, but when I look at them, I'm taken back to the moment and the way I felt when I was there - if I was irritated or frustrated or sad. And despite the beauty of the photograph, it's still has the tinge of those emotions when I look at it.

It's one of the reasons I think the experience of your photoshoot is just as important as the outcome. Sure, you want amazing photos of you and your people. *And* you should be able to look at your amazing photos and remember that the session was fun, light, full of giggles and love. Of course that looks different for every family but that's the goal.

I encourage play and jokes and lightness. I make sure you know that you.can't.do.this.wrong.

So getting messages from my clients after their sessions saying 'thank you for making our first family photos actually fun!' means a lot.

All of the posing I do for all my babies - newborns, six-months, one year - is all naturally inspired, baby-led posing. What does this mean? It means I don't pose babies in ways that they wouldn't normally find themselves.

For me, I like that there's no worry about a pose being unsafe for baby or being twisted or folded into a pose that they're not comfortable in.

I love this moment between mum and bebe, natural and intimate.

Every time.
We'll get to end of an at-home session, I'll say 'shall we take some nudie ones quickly before I leave?'
And then I'm there for another half an hour taking pics of rolls and dimples.

I'm always on the look out for new places to explore in nature.

This spot here is on Brissie's southside but a couple of weeks ago I headed north to a new spot where the long grass catches the light of sunset by the lake. I'm excited to be able to offer it to all my clients on the Northside now.
