What should a maternity session actually feel like?

Not an hour of awkward posing. Not worrying about where to put your hands. And definitely not trying to make every single moment look perfect.

For me, maternity photography is about documenting the season you're already in — the anticipation, your changing body, your connection with your partner and the family that is about to change all over again.

We walk. We talk. We let the kids wander in and out. We find beautiful light and leave space for the moments that happen naturally in between.

These photographs were captured amongst the golden winter landscape of the Scenic Rim, Queensland — the kind of location that makes a maternity session feel less like a photoshoot and more like an afternoon together.

Yesterday I shared our land with barely a day's notice.
In return, I was invited to create alongside another photographer and share ideas.

It's a beautiful thing, this community. One where doors are opened, encouragement is freely given, and opportunities are shared.

I never expected to leave with these photographs or video clips, but I'm so grateful I did. A session i wasn't ready for but a session im glad I got the chance.

Maybe that's the beauty of saying yes.
The best stories are often the ones you never planned to tell.

Have i told you. That every story I tell will include a few behind-the-scenes moments too... because sometimes the in-between is where the magic quietly lives.

It's built through decades of love, sacrifice, laughter, resilience, and countless moments that shape the people who come after us.
This session was a beautiful reminder that photographs aren't just for today. They're for the children, grandchildren, and generations yet to come.
Not just faces.

Some chapters don't end the way we imagined they would and it can be so hard to let go of the vision you imagined.

This session was created to honour the end of a fertility journey. To acknowledge the years of hope, heartbreak, resilience, love, and loss that shaped it.

A mother already, yet still carrying the weight of the babies who never made it home.

Before this chapter closes, she wanted to create space to remember them. To honour the dreams, the possibilities, and the love that existed for each of them.

These images are not about what was missing.

They are about what remained.

Love.
Strength.
Motherhood.
And the courage it takes to let go while carrying those memories forward.

This is Part One of a story that deserves to be remembered.

One day, they'll be too heavy to throw into the sky.

They won't reach for a feed when they're tired.
They won't fit perfectly in the crook of your arm.
They won't wrap themselves around your leg or ask to be carried just because they can.

But for now, this is your everyday.

The kisses.
The cuddles.
The milk-drunk smiles.
The laughter that comes from nowhere.
The tiny moments that seem ordinary while you're living them.

And somehow, they're the moments that become the most precious.

This is what I hope parents see when they look back at their photographs years from now.

Not perfection.

Just love.

The older my children get, the more I realise how quickly these seasons pass.

These gorgeous family moments were captured in just 10 minutes, during an extended family session.

Ten minutes of cuddles.
Ten minutes of laughter.
Ten minutes of little hands reaching for Mum and Dad as they were sad.
Ten minutes of simply being together.

You don't need hours of posing or children sitting perfectly still to create meaningful photographs. You just need connection.

Because years from now, these images won't remind you of how long the session lasted. They'll remind you of this season of life. The way they fit in your arms. The way they looked at you. The way they cried for you. The way it felt to be their whole world.

Ten minutes.
A lifetime of memories.

The softness of a moment that didnt ask to be perfect

This is motherhood
raw, sacred, and fleeting
and it moves faster than we ever expect
slipping through our hands in the softest ways
hold onto the light while it’s here
capture it, feel it, remember it
because motherhood is sacred
and these moments… they don’t stay
