Yesterday with Lara & Simon 🤍

Tucked away at the gorgeous little Keyneton Soldiers Memorial Hall and Independent Chapel, this was one of those wonderfully relaxed weddings that felt completely removed from the rush of everything else.

Close family and friends, a beautiful little chapel, plenty of laughs, a laid-back country vibe… and some remarkably well-timed dodging of the rain. 🌧️😂

Sometimes the best weddings are the ones a little off the beaten track — intimate, uncomplicated and completely about the people who matter most.

Congratulations Lara & Simon! 🥂

After photographing weddings for more than 20 years, I no longer believe the vows are always the greatest evidence of love.
Sometimes it’s trembling hands, a dress hem lifted without being asked, or two people laughing when the weather refuses to cooperate.
Weddings are filled with promises about the future—but the quietest moments reveal something already true:
How deeply two people care for one another today.

Mia and Roberto found the loveliest pocket of sunshine for their intimate Adelaide Registration Office Wedding! 💍✨

We began with a gorgeous first look beneath the Moreton Bay fig trees in Botanic Park, followed by a whirlwind portrait session through Adelaide Botanic Garden. After their sweet, laughter-filled ceremony, we finished with stylish photos inside Adelaide Arcade and around the CBD.

A beautiful couple, a joyful little entourage and so much variety packed into one fabulous Adelaide wedding day—even the parking ticket was worth it! 🌿🥂

Mia and Roberto’s Adelaide Registration Office Wedding featured Botanic Garden portraits, a joyful ceremony and photos in Adelaide Arcade.

Soon after I photographed this wedding, the groom passed away from cancer. Their son was only one.

Those photographs became more than memories of a wedding day. One day, they will help a little boy see how his dad held him, how his parents looked at one another, and how much joy they found together—even while time was running out.

Sometimes photographs become part of a family’s history before we realise how precious they will be.

I often ask my couples:
“If I asked your friends what the two of you are really like, what would they say?”
I’m not really looking for an answer. I want them to remember the laughter nobody else sees, the traditions they’ve created, and the peculiar little details their friends would recognise immediately.
When those pieces are woven into a wedding, the photographs become more than beautiful. They become personal—unmistakably theirs.
Years later, people won’t simply remember attending a lovely wedding. They’ll remember that it could never have belonged to anyone else.

Mia and Roberto’s registry office wedding yesterday turned into quite the adventure!

We began with photos in the Botanic Gardens before suddenly realising just how quickly the ceremony time was approaching. What followed was a very rushed trip across the city, a race to the registry office—and, for me, a parking fine waiting at the end of it all.

But for these two, and the beautiful moments we captured along the way? Completely worth it. ❤️

Sometimes wedding photography requires patience, experience and a careful understanding of light.
Other times it requires climbing a mountain with thousands of dollars strapped to your back while pretending this was a completely reasonable career choice.
Would I do it again for the photograph? Absolutely. 😅

Everyone else sees a bride or groom walking down the aisle.

A parent sees every version of their child arriving at once—the first steps, the awkward teenage years, the person they slowly became.

And behind their smile is the quiet realisation that this isn’t an ending. It’s the moment their child’s life becomes larger than the one they built together.

If you're not having fun on your day…seriously… what are you doing?

I often photograph couples as small figures in vast landscapes—not because love makes us the centre of the universe, but because the landscape reminds us how briefly we are here.

The photograph reminds us that, for one fleeting moment, we were here together.
