The Mashonaland East Provincial Ball Games were successfully held at Ruware Primary School in Marondera, bringing together teams from all ten districts in the province. District Schools Inspectors (DSIs) attended the event to witness the competition, including Mutoko DSI Mr Katuka and Schools Inspector Mrs Tsiga.
The sporting disciplines contested included soccer, netball, handball, tennis, and volleyball. Learners showcased outstanding talent, discipline, and teamwork throughout the tournament.
Mutoko North had an impressive start in the soccer competition, recording two draws and one win in the group stages to qualify for the semi-finals. They faced Mudzi District and secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory to book a place in the final against Goromonzi District.
Congratulations go to the Head in Charge, Mr Matsive, and the coaching team of Mr Mawarire, Mr Murwisi, and Mr Nyamunda, who guided the team with professionalism and fairness. The final was closely contested, with both teams playing excellent football throughout the first and second halves. After a goalless 0–0 draw, the match was decided by a penalty shoot-out, where Goromonzi District emerged victorious due to their superior penalty conversion.
Despite the loss, Mutoko North displayed remarkable determination and sportsmanship. At the end of the tournament, a provincial team was selected to represent Mashonaland East at the national games to be held in Mutare, Manicaland, next week. We wish the provincial team every success and look forward to more positive results.
Special appreciation goes to all Mutoko NAPH members for supporting the event, as well as the sports organisers, coaches, teachers, and officials from the various schools whose dedication ensured the tournament was a success.
