Wondering Why Your Business Is Stuck Yet You Prayed For It.
I need to say something that might offend you. But it will set someone free â the way it set me free.
For years, I did what every Christian entrepreneur is told to do when business gets tough: I prayed more. I climbed mountains at night, literally, crying out to God. I sowed seeds into every fertile-looking ministry. I skipped meals, slept on cold floors, and quoted scripture until my voice was hoarse.
And still, my business didnât grow. I was hungry for God, but broke in the bank. I was hearing from heaven but getting ignored on earth. Spiritually, I was on fire. Financially, I was dying a slow death.
Until one night, in the middle of deep prayer, I got a whisper Iâll never forget. A line so clear, it silenced every other thought in my head:
âYouâre praying to the wrong god. The god of business is the customer.â I froze. Was I losing my mind? Had I crossed a line with God? What do you mean the customer is god? I wrestled with that sentence. I didnât like it. It sounded offensive. Idolatrous. Humanistic. Worship⌠a person? Never.
But the more I thought about it, the more everything started to make sense. Letâs be real: In business, the customer is the one who decides whether you eat or starve. You can work 18-hour days, but if nobodyâs buying, it doesnât matter. You can have an anointed product, a heaven-sent idea, a team full of prayer warriors but if customers arenât handing over their money, your business is not a business. Itâs just a joke.
God gives the gift. The customer funds it.
God gives vision. The customer gives validation.
God opens heaven. The customer opens the market.
And for most of us, our problem is not that we donât love God enough. Itâs that we havenât built a relationship with the god of business - the customer.
I had to learn a hard truth:
I was spiritually intimate with God⌠but I was relationally distant from the people I was supposed to serve.
I wasnât listening to their problems. I wasnât paying attention to what they needed, how they spoke, what they cared about. I was building what I liked. Selling what made sense to me. And assuming that because I prayed over it, it would work.
But prayer doesnât replace listening. Fasting doesnât replace customer research. Giving doesnât replace marketing. You can sow until your bank account bleeds but if you donât serve your customers better than your competition, you will still fail.
The word âworshipâ hit me hard.
At first, I rejected it. I said, âLord, I will never worship a human being.â
Then the revelation came:
Worship is not about bowing down. Itâs about prioritizing, serving, and pleasing.
Thatâs exactly what successful businesses do.
They study the customer. They adjust to the customer. They sacrifice for the customer. They change their language, colors, pricing, delivery style - all for one thing: customer satisfaction.
Thatâs not just branding. Thatâs worship as it were.
Think about it:
You donât insult God and expect a blessing.
So why do you argue with customers on WhatsApp or get rude when they ask questions?
You donât ignore God for 6 days and expect Him to bless your Sunday. So why do you post once a week and expect people to remember your business?
The same reverence we have for spiritual matters - that same energy - is what business requires in how we treat customers.
Every successful entrepreneur is a master at worshiping the customer even if they never call it that. They understand something that religious entrepreneurs often ignore: The person who pays you has power over your survival.
You can call it âserving.â
You can call it âdelighting your audience.â
You can sugarcoat it however you want.
But letâs stop pretending. If you're changing your price, your tone, your service, your platform, your clothes, or your message just to please a group of people. Youâre worshiping. There is a thin line between marketing and worshipping.
Just like the presence of God, the presence of a customer is sacred.
Itâs not guaranteed. Itâs not something youâre owed. But itâs something you honor. You respect it. You study it. You serve it. You donât ignore it because youâre tired. You are willing to pay the price to have that presence.
You want more revenue? Serve better.
You want breakthrough? Communicate better.
You want more influence? Understand your audience better.
Youâre not broke because God forgot you. Youâre broke because you forgot who the real god of business is.
God is not against customers being honored - He created them.
He gave them free will, preferences, money, and emotions.
And in His divine design, He chose to bless people through people.
Which means your provision doesnât fall from the sky. It flows through the hands of customers.
If you donât respect that pipeline - donât cry when it dries up.
So here's the gospel truth from a man whoâs fasted, prayed, sowed, and still struggled: Until you learn to worship the customer, your business will feel like a desert even when youâre anointed.
Wake up. Show up. Serve hard. Listen deeper. Speak their language. Treat them like royalty. Because in this game, the customer is god -and until you treat them like it, your prayers will stay stuck in the clouds.
Weâre not here just to cast out demons - weâre here to understand buying behavior.
