This Is A Government Of Liars!*
*Lusaka - 6th March, 2022.*
*Vice President Mutale Nalumango:* "Madam Speaker, fuel arrears have significantly risen due to the price differential between the landed cost of petroleum products and the pump price. The stock of fuel arrears as at end of August 2021 stood at US $$477.79 million."
*Hichilema's Assistant For Press and Public Relations, Anthony Bwalya:* The Patriotic Front left $727m in unpaid fuel invoices. In 6 months, the new administration has managed to bare this down to around $500m. In order to clear this debt and stabilize fuel supplies to at least 3 months cover, we need close to $1bn. While they make noise, we are working round the clock to sort out the mess they created for all of us.
*Editor's Comments:* The UPND found less than $500m of fuel arrears and it has done absolutely nothing but to make it worse. As usual, the new dawn government wanted to lie through Anthony Bwalya that it inherited $727m in unpaid fuel invoices from the Patriotic Front without checking what the Vice President, through Cabinet Office, had said on the Floor of the House, $478m.
This is a government of liars! Come 2026, it must not just go but thoroughly investigated.
