Every portrait has a story, and this one tells a story of service, dedication, and conservation.

I'm honoured to begin this commission for K9 Project Watchdog, a SANParks Honorary Rangers initiative supporting the conservation K9 units that help protect South Africa's wildlife.

This is just the first stage, but I'm excited to bring this remarkable dog's legacy to life on canvas.

Art has always been a way for me to celebrate the wildlife that inspires me. From the quiet resilience of a brown hyena to the fading presence of Africa's endangered predators, every piece I create is rooted in a deep appreciation for the natural world.

Today, I'm proud to officially introduce my Conservation Through Art initiative.

With every artwork purchased, 30% of the purchase price will be donated directly to a conservation organisation chosen by the collector from a carefully selected list of conservation partners. Donors will receive confirmation directly from the organisation, ensuring complete transparency and allowing them to see the impact of their support.

This initiative is my way of giving something back to the wildlife and wild places that have shaped both my career and artistic journey. Every artwork tells a story, and now every purchase can help contribute to protecting the species that inspire those stories.

I am delighted to already be supporting two incredible organisations through this initiative: the SANParks Honorary Rangers K9 Project Watchdog and Wildlife ACT. Two additional conservation partners will be joining the programme in the near future, further expanding the opportunities for collectors to support meaningful conservation work across South Africa.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support both my artwork and wildlife conservation.

Fading Into Silence – An A1 Charcoal Wildlife Artwork Inspired by Africa’s Endangered Wild Dogs

After 25 hours of work, countless layers of charcoal, and many moments of stepping back to reconsider the composition, Fading Into Silence is finally complete. This A1 charcoal-on-canvas artwork was inspired by one of Africa's most remarkable and endangered predators: the African wild dog. Wild dogs are often overlooked when people think of Africa's iconic wildlife. Lions, leopards and elephants tend to capture most of the attention, yet wild dogs are among the continent's most successful hunters and one of its most threatened carnivores....

Fading Into Silence 🖤

25 hours of charcoal on canvas condensed into a few seconds.

African wild dogs are among the most endangered predators in Africa, and their disappearance is often quiet enough to go unnoticed. The fading forms in the background represent the gradual loss of a species that once roamed far more widely across the continent.

This piece is a reminder to appreciate and protect what still remains before it fades into silence.

Fading Into Silence

25 hours | Charcoal on Canvas | A1

African wild dogs are among the most endangered predators in Africa, yet their decline often happens quietly, unnoticed by many.

This piece reflects that reality. The solitary wild dog stands in the present, while the fading forms behind it represent the gradual loss of a species that once roamed far more widely across the continent. They are a reminder of what disappears when populations decline, and of the importance of protecting what still remains.

Created entirely in charcoal on canvas over 25 hours, Fading Into Silence is both a celebration of one of Africa’s most remarkable predators and a reflection on the silence that follows when wildlife begins to vanish.

WORK IN PROGRESS - 19 Hours In

A little more progress on this A1 charcoal on canvas African Wild Dog portrait.

It's moving forward slowly, but I'm really enjoying watching this one evolve. There's something special about seeing all the individual hours begin to add up and the personality of the animal starts to shine through.

Looking forward to seeing where the next few sessions take it.
