There was a time when I was just starting out with a camera in my hands, a dream in my heart, and a passion for capturing moments that words could never fully describe.

Looking back at these photos takes me on a journey. Every image tells a story—not only of the people in front of my lens, but also of my own growth behind it. I was learning, experimenting, making mistakes, celebrating victories, and falling more in love with photography with every click of the shutter.

What started as a simple love for preserving memories slowly became something much bigger. It became a way to connect with people, to freeze fleeting moments, and to tell stories that would be treasured for years to come.

Today I’m sharing a few of these older photographs—not because they’re perfect, but because they remind me where it all began. They remind me that every journey starts with a single step, and every photographer starts with a single photo.

Some photo sessions feel less like work and more like stepping into a little story for an hour. ✨

This beautiful mother and son walked in with the kind of connection you cannot fake. From the very beginning, there was so much warmth between them — laughter that came naturally, smiles that reached their eyes, and those quiet little moments in between that said more than words ever could.

A hand held without thinking.
A proud smile.
A look that simply said, “I’m here.”

Photographing them felt like capturing pieces of home, love, comfort, and years of memories wrapped into one beautiful bond. The camera can capture faces, but every now and then, it also captures the heart behind them… and this session was filled with heart. 🤍

Thank you for allowing me to freeze these moments in time. One day these photographs will become treasures, little reminders of a love that has always been there.

Hello, I thought it might be time to properly introduce myself to all the new faces here.

My name is Zaskia, the heart behind Zaskia Zonya Photography, and I’m so grateful you’re here.

Photography started as something simple for me — just a love for capturing moments. But somewhere along the way it became something deeper. I discovered that a photograph can hold a feeling… a laugh… a look between two people that words could never fully describe.

I photograph portraits, couples, lifestyle moments, nature, engagements, and bo***ir.

What I love most is capturing the emotion between people — the quiet moments, the laughter, the way two people look at each other when they think nobody else is watching.

One of the most meaningful parts of my work is bo***ir photography. So many people walk into a shoot feeling unsure of themselves, feeling like they are not beautiful enough. And then something amazing happens — they see themselves differently. The confidence, the joy, the spark in their eyes. That moment is priceless to me.

Because at the end of the day, photography isn’t just about pictures.
It’s about stories, memories, and helping people see the beauty that was always there.

A little about me beyond the camera:
I’m a mom of two beautiful grown children. I love writing, singing, painting, decorating spaces, working in the garden, and exploring new places. Traveling is one of my biggest dreams, and I would love to photograph people all over the world one day.

I’m based in South Africa, but my camera is always ready for an adventure. If you ever want a photographer to travel with you and capture your story along the way — I’m your person.

There’s something sacred about young love when it’s unfiltered.

No stiff poses. No forced smiles. Just two people who genuinely like each other… laughing in the middle of a forest like the rest of the world doesn’t exist.

We wandered through tall trees, let the quiet of the dam wrap around us, and ran wild in an open field like kids who forgot they were supposed to act grown up. And then sunset showed off (as it always does), pouring golden light over everything — the kind of light that makes you believe love was God’s idea from the very beginning.

They didn’t try to be perfect. They just were.
And that’s what made it magic.

The laughter.
The glances.
The way they forgot about the camera and just enjoyed each other.

Those are the moments worth keeping.

If you’re in love — the real kind, the giggling, hand-holding, can’t-stop-smiling kind — let’s capture it properly. Not someday. Now. Before this season becomes a memory.

Because one day you’ll look back at these photos and say,

Thirteen — that in-between age where childhood still lingers like sunlight on your skin ✨

These two have been best friends for years, and it shows in the easy laughter, the silly whispers, the way they move together without thinking. No posing. No pressure. Just giggles, running feet, inside jokes, and that beautiful, carefree magic that only true friendship carries.

We wandered through nature, letting them be exactly who they are — playful, wild, kind, and wonderfully young. And in between the laughs and the leaf-throwing moments, we captured something precious: a season of life that passes far too quickly.

These are the photos you look back on years from now and say, “That was us.”
