Thursday's live performance by Basson Laubscher & The Violent Free Peace at Balboa Balcony Bar was so incredible I simply had to take a shot. Its my first time seeing him perform in person and definitely can not wait for Table Mountain Blues Summit in December!

A bit of a throwback to earlier in the year to when our class went on a weekend trip to Drie Kuilen Nature Reserve to do some Star trails.

This image was taken at midnight over about two and a half hours. What is seen in the bottom third of the image is the braai area where everyone would sit and 'kuier' and wait for their exposures to run their course.

Why we travelled so far for these shots is because being close to cities and towns will cause the night sky to light up. In this shot the closest town is Montague (50Km away) and you can see the glow of the town over the hill in the background.

Like and Share if you guys would like to see more shots like this in the future!

The first time recently visiting Onrus near Hemanus I got to witness one of the local past times; fishing for squid in the harbour in Hermanus. Seeing how people went about their activity brought me back to childhood memories of sitting and watching the men and children lining the fishing pier in Margate, close to my family's apartment.

It always inspired me to see the determination and comradery between fellow fishermen, regardless of weather. With the occassional inacurrate cast crossing lines and seeing them shuffle and trade places to avoid a messy entangling of lines, laughing, joking and sharing beers.

The fishermen in Hermanus were no less different, albeit a little more spaced out; they still formed groups that fished certain spots along the edge. Knowing that some did it for fun, some to bring something interesting, others to bring something essential to the dinner table gave the experience an exhuberant yet peaceful atmosphere.

One moment that stood out was when a fisherman close to me hooked and landed a tiny Bamboo Shark (that plague the fishing waters of the harbour) I commented jokingly "the KFC of the ocean!" to which he replied "If this is KFC then this one is a Zinger Wing!"

Special Thanks to the Coetzee family for accomodating me during my stay.

I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a splendid Mamiya C330 medium format camera a few months ago. I have always been a fan of this camera and am now the proud owner of one.

I have been playing around with it and absolutely love it. This album is simply a random collection of images taken in minor cases of spontaneity.

I did some work for Daneel Diamond Manufacturers very recently and am excited to share the end results with you guys. This is the first time I shot jewellery and it was trickier than I expected what with all the reflective surfaces and the way the light refracted about inside the jewels.

Towards the end, the images started making themselves and it came down to positioning and framing.

I am definitevely going to continue with this kind of work, especially after finding out that most of the ads we see for jewellery are in fact computer generated images as opposed to photographs.

Lines | Landscape Project |
_____________________

The aim of this work is to investigate and make apparent the inherit boundaries between nature and human influence and the changes that take place in the relationship between the two.

I chose to work with the Maties Equestrian locale because I felt the area had a number of different influences at play, at numerous levels. I found the layers to be especially interesting in that Humans cut away the forest to make space for a gymkhana arena; in other words, nature removed nature to make space for a stage upon which nature watches nature perform.

This works attempt to challenge what people think is normal behaviour when it comes to interacting with our environment. The idea that we have to almost completely control the nature around us in a way that makes us feel in control.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this shot was quite tricky to take having done it 4m up off the ground from a tree - yes, I climbed a tree for this shot. I was more than a little nervous with me (not a light person) sitting on a branch with a Large format camera (Not a small camera) resting on my leg and having to compose, focus and shoot the image balancing the camera as still as possible.

As anyone who has worked with these cameras would tell you, you pretty much never work with this camera free hand, it is almost always on a tripod. The fact that I got this shot at an exposure of 1/30s makes me very proud and happy.

I hope you guys like this. Please support by Liking and Sharing!
