Day 6/7 - Sunrise
Song of the shoot - Pierre by Ryn Weaver

Had a little delay in the series due to a real big brain moment where I went on holiday with friends and forgot my camera charger. Nevertheless, did what I could with one bar of battery life and a group of bleary-eyed friends who I dragged with me to go watch the sunrise. The screech I uttered as a wave waved over me whilst lying down echoed across the beach but regardless, it was really fun if a tad chilly.
Ps. A shout out to the wonderful for guarding my tripod and camera from mischievous waves.

Well, certainly not a concept I recommend attempting in the dead of winter but I mean you do you. This has been an idea I've had kicking about for ages ever since I had to shower during loadshedding with a lantern and I'm rather chuffed. So, thank you Eskom for the inspiration!

Life is a bit messy and I am a bit messy. My skin has big pores, my eyebrows should each have their own names, I chew my lips badly when I'm anxious, my face is forever shiny, I have a bump on my nose that younger me hated with a burning passion and about a million other small nit-picky things I could say was wrong with the way I look. As a photographer, generally I would edit these things away but they are a part of me and so I wanted to leave them in for this set of photos. Each feature is uniquely my own and mark me as Jocelyn Finnie. They make up the picture of myself that my friends and family recognise and love and I honestly think there's a kind of beauty in that. There's a honesty and a realness in unedited life and I love it. Life is a bit messy and I don't think it's possible to pretend it's otherwise so might as well roll with the punches and look at yourself with love, regardless of how you appear in the mirror.

Better late than never! Not going to lie, I struggled with this batch. Noise and blur being my greatest enemies as well as being disheartened at how dark the photos looked on my screen and how different my mental image was to the results. However, we persist and I am actually pretty chuffed.

Ps. For a giggle .no.neha says that the last image should be captioned "Touching me... touching youuuu! SWEET CAROLINE."

After 42 days of studying and a serious loss of creativity, I can't explain how damn good it feels to pick up a camera again.

In an attempt to spark some creativity and test out some ideas and skills I've been wanting to try out for ages, I'm setting myself a goal of taking a set of self-portraits every day for a week.

Will I do it? Yes. Will they all be good? Um, debatable. Will I still enjoy every mildly embarrassing second? Hells yes (even if the runners and walkers watching me gave me some awfully strange looks).

So, enjoy... things may get weird.
