Yesterday I joined another photo walk with Humans of Cape Town through the beautiful Bo-Kaap — a place where every street feels alive with colour, history and warmth. The houses are vibrant, but so are the people who call this neighbourhood home. Between photographs, we wandered through the local market, hunting down warm koeksisters and perfectly spiced samoosas. It reminded me that photography is not only about what we see, but also about what we taste, hear and feel along the way.

By 11:30 that night, I had almost convinced myself it was time to leave the waterhole. The silence had settled in, and I thought the evening’s story was over.

Then this pair appeared out of the darkness.

They walked in quietly, drank side by side, and turned an ordinary late night into one I’ll never forget. Needless to say, I stayed until after 1am waiting for them to disappear back into the shadows.

Etosha has a wonderful habit of rewarding patience when you least expect it.

She stood there, elegant and alert, a young female steenbok in the Kruger National Park—until the fly arrived. Right on the neck. Prime real estate. She ignored it completely, as if posing for a wildlife portrait titled Grace Under Mild Irritation. Nature is beautiful… and occasionally very itchy.

Like the three musketeers, these lanky legends strutted toward the waterhole with all the swagger of a parade gone slightly wrong. This little ground squirrel is starting the day in the sweetest way possible—enjoying a light breakfast with both paws tucked in like fine dining.
