This beautiful sight is called a sun halo 🌈☀️
More specifically, it’s a 22-degree halo.

It happens when sunlight passes through tiny ice crystals in high, thin cirrus clouds. The crystals bend the light just enough to form a perfect ring around the sun, often with faint rainbow colors on the inner edge.

Fun bits:
• It’s not a rainbow (those need rain and the sun behind you).
• Sun halos are quite common but still feel magical when you notice them.
• Folklore says they can sometimes hint at changing weather, since cirrus clouds often arrive before a front.
