I’m on a sojourn in the Eastern Cape without access to my camera library. So I’m posting some cellphone pics from recent hikes.
On Sunday we walked up St James Peak. There is great beauty in the starkness of the post-fire landscape.

Another picture taken at VIctoria Reservoir on 8 May.
I'll add a number of these over the coming days - they may look similar, but each has its own flavour.

A somewhat different water picture. After the big fire in Silvermine in late April, I began returning at least weekly to Table Mountain. I love walking the Back Table especially, but the time commitment is much greater and for a Muizenberg resident Silvermine is just so darned convenient! In early May, when I first began returning, the two top dams (Hely-Hutchinson and Woodhead) were virtually empty, but Victoria was still pretty full. It is, for a variety of reasons, a dam that I particularly like. Not least among these reasons is that a picture I took of water there, a reflection of stones from the dam wall on water, is the happy accident that in 2002 started me on my fascination with photographing water.
This picture was taken on 8 May 2025, and depicts the wall of Victoria reservoir reflected in its waters. A return to my roots, as it were.

Same place as yesterday's picture; different angle, view. The diagonal spiralling droplet writes its passage for 1/15th of a second across the canvas, picking up now more, now less light as it travels. Elsewhere, everything moves, save the nearly still blue reflection of sky and the solid rocks over which the water races.
