WE currently reside in Pretoria, but WE don't mind travelling. Happily MARRIED for 6 years. We don't have kids, but we have a dog and a bird Indigo & Jimmy. I (Carla) love coffee. I (Johan) love videography and making people laugh! I (Carla) love gin and a good cocktail - but I don't do alcohol at weddings. I (Johan) love a beer & whiskey on occasions - but I don't do alcohol at weddings. I (Carla), am the Official Photographer for Droom Troue on VIA TV, DStv channel 147. In our free time (we don't have a lot of it) We are gamers (PC, in case you’re wondering). You’ll find US outdoors or usually on the road. OUR dream holiday would be exploring MEXICO. WHY DO WE PHOTOGRAPH WEDDINGS? I (Carla) didn’t start off photography with wedding photography in mind – which is quite normal as I’ve come to realise having met many other wedding photographers. I love photography, the combination of creative manipulation of light and subject and the mathematical, logical problem solving, coupled with the obvious ‘collector’ in me, made photography my perfect match. Weddings, however, I didn’t feel drawn to – not until I shot my first wedding. A friend of mine asked and I, reluctantly, offered to take photos of their wedding day. I’m was an introvert and a people-watcher and I preferred baby photography at first. Long story short, New Borns wasn't quite my FORTÉ, and I just fell in love with the idea of capturing intimate moments... So wedding photography just worked. I enjoy working with my couples and feeling their excitement in preparation for their wedding day, there’s so much energy, fun and enthusiasm - it’s hard not to be passionate about something so amazing. WHAT DO WE BRING TO YOUR WEDDING? Relaxed and friendly with a side of full-blown creativity, and easy on the posed family portraits is my shtick. If you’re the non-traditional, unconventional, alternative couple – we’ll probably get along! You’ll get moody, intimate, authentic, natural photographs of you and your guests on one of the most important days of your lives. Let’s be honest though, we all know your mum (/sister/aunt/you) needs at least one portrait for the mantlepiece. Most of my couples are camera shy and aren’t excited at the idea of posing for a photo, so I help you to feel more comfortable with a relaxed, unobtrusive, non-posed (ok, maybe very slightly posed) approach to my photography – capturing genuine emotions and connection between the two of you. I (Johan) promise to bring a handful of bad jokes, and I (Carla) a couple of cameras, bags of creativity, and a passion to get stuck in. I’ve been known to help lace a corset, fix a fascinator, show a dad how to use his camera phone, and explain which way is up with a boutonniere, and all that was at the same wedding. Expect tips, pointers, timelines, and help beforehand and a chilled-out time getting amazing photos on the day.
