MADONNA
Madonna was created with deft brush strokes on a pane of glass. Ruth used the glass to make a single print on paper. Her expression is quiet and humble, yet she has a profound inner strength

THE THREE OF CUPS
The Three of Cups was inspired by an antique Tarot card. It signifies unity of purpose and human solidarity. The method was complex, involving the weaving of and overlaying of paper around the borders and some parts of the painting. They contribute to the whole. Each woman featured has a distinctive look and personality

GOLDEN GIRL
Golden Girl was created by Ruth by painting on a pane of glass, from which she made a single print. What emerged was a woman with a gaze that is assertive, confident and thoughtful.

The Grasped Image (www.thegraspedimage.com) sells unique images and books that tell powerful stories you can relate to. The online store was launched recently with an initial offering of three artworks and a book.

THE ARTWORKS
For the first time the South African artist Ruth Carneson has agreed that her artwork can be sold in the form of fine art prints. A film of her 2022 fifty- year retrospective exhibition, Place of Refuge, is shown in-store.
The Grasped Image has secured the right to produce and market prints of three of her works: Madonna, Golden Girl, and the Three of Cups. The original artwork was photographed and colour-matched by experts and sample prints were approved by the artist. In the coming months more prints of artwork will be added.

THE BOOK
The Grasped Image has also published a unique book: The Story of John and Ntombi: a memoir of their love and times. The South African author is John Carneson, and the book is an unusually frank and amusing exploration of a stormy relationship. The one he had with his extraordinary wife, Ntombi. This year they will be celebrating the 40th anniversary. It was a marriage that survived apartheid, exile, the Cold War, liberation and the Covid pandemic.

PLACING AN ORDER
The prints of the artwork can be delivered world-wide, and shipping within South Africa is free. Prints of A3, A4 and A1 sizes are available on canvas or fine art paper. The paperback and e-book of the memoir is available in South Africa and worldwide. Information and links to sellers are provided in the online store.
