EQ (Equalization) is one of the most fundamental and powerful tools in music production. It allows you to shape the tonal balance of a sound by boosting or cutting specific frequency ranges.
What Does EQ Actually Do?
Every sound is made up of different frequencies (measured in Hertz, Hz).
• Low frequencies (20–250 Hz) = bass, kick, warmth, power
• Mid frequencies (250 Hz–4 kHz) = clarity, presence, harshness
• High frequencies (4 kHz–20 kHz) = air, sparkle, brightness
An EQ lets you turn up or turn down the volume of specific frequency bands, similar to the bass/treble k***s on a car stereo but with much more precision.

Audio compression is a dynamic processing effect that automatically reduces the volume of loud parts of a signal while leaving quieter parts mostly untouched (or even boosting them).
Its main purpose is to reduce the dynamic range — the difference between the loudest and quietest moments in a performance or recording. This makes the sound more consistent, polished, powerful, and easier to fit into a full mix.
Without compression:
• Vocals might disappear in some parts and blast in others.
• Drums can sound uneven (snare too loud, kick too weak).
• The overall track feels amateur or uncontrolled.
With compression:
• Everything feels tighter, punchier, and more professional.
