As timeless as Africa is herself… the reverberation of the chanting as the Masaai celebrate their way of life has the same reverberation through one’s Soul as a lion calling across the endless plains does..

Serengeti National Park and TAASA Lodge Guide Training.. the words escape one. To be privileged to share and develop Guides has a deep sense of responsibility but also of pure revenance…

A leatherback emerges under a Southern star filled sky to lay her eggs.. the sheer size of this creature is mindblowing.. an adult comparable to the weight of a Buffalo bull.. the effort and sheer determination needed is an incredible lesson to us all in terms of perseverance.. an amazing lesson of life if one chooses to see it.

Full circle..some 3 months ago we watched a Loggerhead lay her eggs on the Maputoland coastline. For her, a journey that has taken many years coming back to the beach where she was born herself, it is still not fully understood how they navigate with various suggestions being put forward. Various clutches are laid in a rookery and the hatchlings upon breaking the sand have a survival run to the Ocean, trying to avoid host crabs, monitor lizards, honey badgers along the way..then there are the dangers in the water .. to witness this from laying to hatchling.. one has to question and marvel at this magnificent spectacle of Nature and ask oneself.. Is my life really that tough.. food for thought

Always something different when seeing this magnificent animal in its homeland.. Hluhluwe Imfolozi Park.. for me this image represents so much more than an iconic species. It represents a defiant Zulu King, Shaka, a Conservation Icon, Dr Ian Player, and sadly, the tar road symbolises the arrival of modern man and the pressures of misaligned value that this species now finds itself in the turmoil of.. hopefully the road represents the best of us as its custodians and not the reason for its extinction…
