This morning, the R75 in front of Bayland was brought to a standstill as protestors blocked the road, forcing commuters to turn around and seek alternative routes.

Amid the smoke and barricades, one protestor’s words echoed louder than the chaos: “No food for 5 days!”

A powerful reminder that behind every protest are human stories — voices that demand to be heard.

I had the privilege of covering a significant and emotionally charged moment at Air Force Station Port Elizabeth — the 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞.

This historic ceremony officially marked the appointment of Colonel Nhlakanipho Zungu as the new Officer Commanding and Senior Warrant Officer Willie Montally McLain as the new Regimental Sergeant Major.

Unlike traditional handovers, this parade was marked by the absence of the late Lt Col Kamogelo Mosiane, making it both a tribute and a transition.

Col Zungu spoke of leadership that prioritises people, while SWO McLain emphasised the importance of legacy, training, and air capability. It was an honour to witness and report on a story of service, legacy, and new beginnings.

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝟏: A glimpse into the informal settlement of Lapland, where residents fought for livable homes after the flash flood that hit Kariega on June 1, dropping over 200mm of rain in just a few hours.

𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝟐: A devastating moment; a husband consoling his wife after they lost their 7-month-old baby in the aftermath of the floods. Their pain is immeasurable, yet their story deserves to be seen and heard.

This is more than just photography; it’s about capturing reality and amplifying voices that need justice. My article, published on June 11, 2024, documented their plight.
