Earlier this week, TikTok user lala4an posted a video with an observation about the August issue of Vogue. Inside, there was an ad for Guess's chevron dress, modeled by an otherwise unassuming (but, of course, gorgeous) blonde woman with a slim, hourglass figure. However, a look at the small print revealed something surprising: "Produced by Seraphinne Vallora on AI." The company's page caught the attention of Paul Marciano, the co-founder of Guess, who sent them a DM. As Andreea put it, "Paul is a very fearless man. He's a trendsetter. The incomparable Heidi Erdmann

Meet the visionary behind the Cape Town Photography Festival: Heidi Erdmann, our Festival Director.

Heidi is an award-winning curator and art historian who has dedicated her career to contemporary art, specialising in photography. She was the founding curator of AREA (1997-1999) an experimental space dedicated to lens-based media, and a founding member of the Centre for Photography (1998) which hosted several editions of the Month of Photography. In 2001, she established The Photographers Gallery ZA in Cape Town.

Heidi has participated in numerous international photo festivals as a curator and was most recently invited to the Panoramic Festival in Spain as an industry expert, which served as the inspiration to launch the Cape Town Photography Festival. She is a regular jury member of Photolucida’s Critical Mass, and her reputation is global.

Heidi obtained a MA degree (Visual Studies) from the University of Stellenbosch (2021), graduating cm laude, and subsequently established Legacy, a curatorial agency specialising in heritage.

Join us from 4–30 September 2025 for an exciting month-long international programme of talks, workshops, screenings, performances, demonstrations and exhibitions of and about world-class photography.
