🏉📸 *THE LAST WHISTLE… OF AN ERA* ❤️
Saturday was the final rugby match of the season for the *Framesby Blokke, against Sentraal — the **Tralies Blokke*. The match was part of the Interschools between Hoërskool Framesby and Hoërskool Sentraal, hosted in Bloemfontein.
But for me, Saturday meant so much more than the end of another rugby season.
It was the *last schoolboy rugby match I would photograph through my lens*. And as I stood on that sideline, camera in hand, I realized that I wasn’t just photographing another game…
I was photographing the end of a chapter. ❤️
For years, I’ve stood behind my camera on those sidelines.
I’ve watched boys run onto the field full of dreams, nerves and adrenaline. I’ve captured tackles, tries, celebrations, injuries, disappointment, laughter, tears and those unforgettable moments of brotherhood.
I’ve watched them grow.
And I’ve watched *my own son* grow among them. 💙
What started as simply taking photographs became something much bigger.
It became my *VLAM. 🔥*
There is something incredibly special about schoolboy rugby. It isn't just about the scoreboard.
It’s about the friendships.
The brotherhood.
The sacrifices.
The early mornings.
The long drives.
The bruises.
The victories.
The losses.
The lessons.
And the memories that these boys will carry long after they leave the rugby field.
And I had the absolute privilege of capturing those memories.
Through my lens, I got to freeze moments in time that these boys may one day look back on and remember:
"That was us."
"That was our team."
"That was our year."
And maybe one day, years from now, someone will look at one of my photographs and remember exactly how it felt to be a schoolboy rugby player.
That thought means more to me than I can put into words. ❤️
To the *Framesby Blokke* — thank you for giving me countless moments to capture. You fought, you battled, you surprised people, and most importantly, you never stopped showing heart. 💙🔥
To every player I've photographed along the way — thank you for trusting me to tell a small part of your story through my camera.
To the coaches, parents and supporters — thank you for allowing me to stand on the sidelines and be part of something so special.
And to my boy… ❤️
Watching you play your way through these schoolboy rugby years has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.
I may have been standing behind the camera…
But my heart was always *right there on that field with you.* 🥹❤️
So, as I packed away my camera after the final whistle on Saturday, there was a strange mixture of pride, gratitude and sadness.
Because sometimes you don't realize you're living a chapter for the last time…
Until it's already over.
*The final whistle has blown.* 🏉
The boots will eventually be hung up.
The jerseys will be packed away.
The fields will become quiet.
But the photographs will remain.
And so will the memories.
*Thank you, schoolboy rugby, for giving me a Vlam worth chasing. 🔥📸*
