Imke’s birth story ✨

Im still fairly new to capturing births in theatre, but what I’ve learnt so far is that no c-section is the same. There’s something so special and significant every time I document one. This time it was absolutely captivating to see how much little Imke was moving around inside mamas belly while waiting, prepping and getting ready for her delivery. Almost like she was telling us how excited she was about her birthday!

We had a Valentines baby!

A birth that will stay with me for a while. This first time couple had been hoping for a baby for a good many years when finally they got their dream. And a homebirth was the dream mom hoped for.

Labour started at 40+4 during the night and by the next morning (Valentine's Day) mom hoped that this was indeed the real thing as the contractions didn't fade like they did the previous days.

The couple spent the morning quietly together and by the afternoon I knew it was time for me to go. When I got there, I found very excited parents, still not sure whether it was the real deal or not.

Melissa Belly blessings did a quick check and to all our surprise, mom was already in the active stage! Everyone got very excited, it was time to blow up the pool and call the birth photographer Jamie from New Shoot Photography .

The water was once again very soothing for this mother and she actually laughed and smiled through most of her contractions even during transition. Her thankfulness at the beautiful baby she was about to receive was so clear and I felt so privileged to be able to share this moment in this couples life.

When it came to the time for pushing, it was a bit of a learning curve for her to figure out how it works, but dad's whispered words of encouragement was what made the difference, and it wasn't long after that, that her water broke and her baby was born 4 min later at 20.31!

This little boy was born with his hand in front of his face(this seems to be a trend for our 2026 babies!) And announced his entrance with very clearly working lungs!

Mom and dad admired their beautiful baby boy and the miracle of birth. Once the cord stopped pulsating, dad did the honour of cutting it and then got his turn to do skin to skin, while mom birthed the placenta and then got out of the water to her warm bed.
Baby was eager to breastfeed and mom did so well.
This boy weighs 4190g!

Once again, a beautiful birth for first time parents! I know that there are going to be some really amazing photos!

This birth marks our 15th birth for the year. 😲!

Photo is from the candles mom had put up to make her birthroom feel special.

So, all our May babies have been born, or so I thought!
A call at around 4.30am came that a June baby wanted to rather be a May baby!
In fact this little girl chose to be born on her big sisters 7th birthday! And she told us it was the best present ever!

This 4th time mother laboured so quickly and she was so calm and strong! (Baby was born in under 3 hours from water breaking)

A true shoulder dystocia is something I have only seen a few times and today was one of those times.
Shoulder dystocia is when the shoulder gets trapped behind the p***c bone after the head is born.
Without a very skilled midwife (AKA Mellisa Belly blessings )it can be a real medical emergency.

But, by using the 'flip-flop' position, mothers strength and Melissa's hands, this little one was born safely with no more than a little bruise on her shoulder.

I was again reminded of the importance of delayed cord clamping as baby continues to receive oxygen via the cord till she could take her first breath and adjust to life outside the womb.

-1 third of baby's blood is still in the placenta at birth and by leaving the cord attached till it stops pulsating and is flat and white, baby receives all the blood and oxygen that belongs to them-

When we weighed this baby girl, we were super grateful she decided to come a little early. This squishy one weighs a whole 4105g and is the biggest of moms 4 babies!

Seeing the 3 big sisters meet their new baby was so sweet and definitely something I'll remember for a long time.

Once again we had the lovely, calm and quiet Jamie from New Shoot Photography doing her thing and I'm sure we will have some beautiful photos!

So our next baby isn't due for a week or 2, so possibly things will be a bit more quiet, but I have come to expect the unexpected so I guess time will tell!
