No one was hurt in the making of this image.
But if this image makes you uncomfortable, if it makes you stop and look, if it makes you feel angry, helpless or uneasy — then it is serving its purpose.
Because violence should make us uncomfortable.
The hand may be staged, but the message is very real. Too many people live with fear, abuse and violence every day. Too many stories become statistics, and too many victims are silenced.
We are over the violence.
Over the fear.
Over the silence.
Over pretending that it is someone else’s problem.
Sometimes a photograph doesn't need to be beautiful.
Sometimes it needs to make you feel.
Speak up. Stand up. Say no to violence.
