A pretty Sun Halo (or 22° halo) currently above Newcastle KZN.

The high altitude clouds that are causing this are starting to thin out so it might not be visible for much longer but if you are in Newcastle or surrounding areas, aim you mobile phone camera towards the sun and snap a photo.

A beautiful part of the sky - the "table of Scorpius" with the cluster NGC 6231, The Prawn Nebula (IC 4628) and the bright orange giant star ζ² Sco nicely visible.

I will be putting more effort into this section of the sky soon (when weather allows for it) but for now, I think this is such pretty celestial moment

A wide field and cropped starless image of the Statue of Liberty / Torch Bearer nebula (NGC 3576).

Captured with my Celestron RASA8 and ZWO294mc Pro camera from Newcastle, South Africa. Located over 8000 light years from us, this popular celestial object is always awesome to image.

My final version of the Dark Tower Nebula (designated GN 16.43.7) - i managed to gather a total of 9 hours of data and worked a bit on the star saturation / colour.

I could always add more data but for now, this is where I am at and I want to move onto other objects...

Located in Scorpius, the dust cloud is about 4 light years across and is about 5000 light years from us.

Captured from Newcastle South Africa with a Celestron RASA, ZWO294mc Pro camera and Baader Neodymium / Optolong L Extreme filters.

I have also included a wide image captured with the SeestarS30 Pro and processed the image to show you the incredibly rich star field where this object is located.

This was the last photo I was able to capture of the eclipsed peace moon yesterday morning before it sank below the distant cloud bank.

The sun was starting to rise and the sky was turning a mix of purple/blue and orange. Everywhere, the grasslands were alive with the sounds of life while the red moon started to disappear.

For me it was a moment of appreciation for the magnificent art of mother nature - every day there is something to appreciate and marvel at if we only have the eyes and will to see it 🙂

A new composite image of the recent partial eclipse with additional phases added - it was just so beautiful to witness that I need to use as many of the photos I captured yesterday morning and share them (you might start getting bored with the number of eclipse photos I share over the coming days ;) )

I was very honoured to see my image of Comet 2024/G3 (Atlas) made the front cover of the latest edition of MNASSA.

There are a number of my astronomy friends (Lafras, Oleg, Kos to name a few) whose amazing images are also reflected in the section entitled: “Observations and images of recent bright comets” by Tim Cooper (Director, Comet, Asteroid and Meteor Section).

I edited two images from this mornings eclipse to bring out more detail in the over-exposed sections of the moon. The first image is after the moon was almost 2/3rds eclipsed and the second was at maximum eclipse when the moon was low to the horizon.

Both images consist of 2 images combined into single images to bring out the detail I referred to.
